apparently, there is going to be a movie made about Freddie Mercury's (the lead singer of Queen) life, and the people writing and casting for the movie have signed Sacha Baron Cohen to play the part of Freddie Mercury. Johnny Depp wanted the role too, but Borat was chosen over him

Excellent choice.

There are plenty of actors who have made the jump from deadpan humor to serious roles and done very well in the process. Plus, Freddie Mercury is a guy who lived his entire life with a wink and a smile, so it's not like Cohen is jumping into serious films by playing Admiral Kimmel in a remake of Tora! Tora! Tora! While I think we all know that Johnny Depp could do a fine job, I think Cohen can, too, and the uncanny resemblance is just gravy.

i read an interview with him a few months ago and he was talking about how borat had gotten too big for it to really be effective anyhow, it's not surprising that he's moving in an entirely different direction now.
