I've spent some time teaching myself through various books PHP, asp, and asp.net. What would my time best be spent in learning these days and also become more useful in developing web apps. (e-commerce, dynamic driven content etc)

oh also, anyone that uses flash and has started using CS3. WTF is up with Actionscript 3.0? everything i've learned and used in actionscript 2.0 and earlier throws a bunch of compiling errors in 3.0? I've had to compile everything lately in 2.0.

most likely. what kind of apps do you want to develop? what kind of audience is using them? what kind of constraints exist on your development process? languages are just a platform for development, and they all have pros and cons, obviously. it doesn't hurt to dabble in as many different languages/platforms as possible, just to get a feel for its pros/cons. at a certain point, you should be able to pick up almost any language and you should instead focus on learning best practices and different techniques for taking advantage of the strengths of the different platforms

Yes, especially since you already seem to have a pretty good grasp of them. Knowing both keeps you pretty good in the market. Picking up some basic JSP/Java might be worth the time, if you ever want to go after bigger contracts or get picked up for a long term contract as part of a dev team.
