Mother's Day

(my workplace is a restaurant)

Apparently the only thing to do for Mother's Day in Raleigh is to go to Brunch

That does sound like a nightmare.

Between having to clock in, balance hours, and enter every move we make on every project in a separate database, I'm spending more time "record keeping" than doing the actual work. It's ridiculous.

Why do people have to start calling at the end of the day after it has been dead all day?

there's this rank rotting smell coming from somewhere in the fridge, and everybody's out of town so I can't really send out an e-mail. and I don't personally want to investigate and identify the source of the smell.

Boss asked me to go on a really awesome work trip and a conference to Toronto. I set it up, registered us, submitted a proposal and costs to go and its approved. When the initial paperwork was submitted we didn't know the exact time when the conference started and ended (they were really slow on this), so as usual I put us flying in the afternoon before and leaving the following morning. My boss and his boss went as well, but both had things early Saturday, (they also booked much later than I did), with the big boss flying out Friday at lunch and missing the last day of the conference (my boss took a red eye to coach his kids baseball game). Now I get back and Finance Dept says they will not pay for my last night at the hotel as I should have flown out with everybody else. Is there a policy? Yes, but its not listed anywhere, its just "known". This is not the first trip I have taken and we always fly in the day before and fly out the day after. So now the lowest paid employee at the conference gets to pay for an additional evening in Toronto out of pocket. I had a great time and might have done it anyways, but really pissed I don't find this shit out until afterwards, so I did not budget for it.

Yes my boss and his boss that also went (the CIO) are being told tough shit by main campus financing as they are the other two who went and have been fighting on my behalf all week. Our business manager screwed me when she stated in an email "Of course, he will pay for the final day" without even checking with anybody else! The best part is that it comes out of our CIO's budget and he is fine with it, but main campus is saying no. Fuck UNC.

I wish. I am at Med School, so we actually make students do shit like go to class.

Best part is I got fucked last year on a pay raise thing and this was kind of a way for my boss to throw me a bone instead and going on a fun trip. Now I get to pay for part of it.

had a work party/retreat on Friday and there were two women who used the time to try to sell us Tupperware and Rodan + Fields products (multi-level marketing scheme), respectively. management just let this happen and actually bought stuff too.

I was a dumbass who didnt look closely at the calendar when I submitted my vacation request for this week. So here I am, at work today, with the next three days off for vacation. I had a three day weekend, one day of work, and then a five day weekend

On the bright side everyone else in the industry is off today, so it's a quiet day in the office and I get to save a day of PTO. And, I have the next five days off

^ I have a similar issue. I'm taking a week off, but part of the vacation starts Wednesday, and I just noticed I'm scheduled to be back the following Friday.

not really annoying, but when they were planning our email server migration i learned that multiple people on my project team haven't been using Outlook but instead used shitty OWA on the old Exchange 2007 server. how much time have these people been wasting dealing with that terribly slow interface?

so we have free snacks and drinks for employees, one of the most popular item is peanut m&m's. i usually try to stay away from the snacks, but today i had an urge for some peanut m&m's and grabbed a few.

one of the women in the office is a heavy smoker, apparently she also enjoys peanut m&m's because the 2 that i ate tasted like a stale ash tray. I spit them out and have been chewing breath mints but i can't get rid of the taste.

i'm sending an angry group email telling people to use the god damn plastic tongs they have beside the fucking snacks

ya think?
I mean we have snacks we pay 50 cents for, individually wrapped.... however I personally could never eat things from a community bowl like that anyway, even if free

..... but I imagine whoever set up the snacks at dtownral's work thought, oh great way to keep snacks in budgets.... never even imagining some monster would handle them all

Wait a minute. Everybody shut up. Wait.

We have established that dtownral's employer provides free snacks and drinks, including peanut M&Ms.

Klatypus thinks that individual bags of peanut M&Ms would be so much more prohibitively expensive that an employer that currently provides peanut M&Ms could not afford to switch unless the company was on par with Google.

What the actual fuck?

peanuts, cashews, pistachios, and things like that are all in the plastic tub things that you pour out so you never touch them. crackers and granola bars are all individually wrapped.

for some mysterious reason though they put m&m's in a a bowl like agar in a petri dish

i've never wanted m&m's so its never occurred to me before how gross it is, but after eating the essence of my nasty coworker i will never make the mistake again

We have free snacks on Fridays including unwrapped Peanut M&Ms and they are in a fish bowl looking container but it is obvious that you are suppose to use the the spoon to get them out.

So far no monster going:

I assume enough people work in software on here that it's a fairly common thing to have a beer fridge at work. I mean we have a Galvanize office downtown and they have craft beer on draft, catered breakfast, and happy hours most days. We just have a shitty fridge that people keep stocked. It's nothing special...

Our main office is shitty and outdated (although we're hopefully moving into a new office soon). Our work parties aren't anything special and we in no way have a "start up" feel to our office. One of the few pleasures we have is a beer fridge but I was complaining because someone filled it with PBR.

We're trying to get more of that start up feel with a better work culture but we're nowhere close yet. Obviously every software company wants to have an Ideo-like culture but it takes work.

Since when did hipster become interchangeable with hippy trump? I'm so confused.

Also hipsters don't call themselves hipster. I'm most certainly not a hipster although I was poking fun at myself for getting a leather half-case to protect my camera by calling myself a hipster.

That's about exactly what I expected you to respond with. As creative as ever.

Now again what did you mean by hippy trump? I'm interested in your thought process that paired those two words together.

No I like calling it out afterwards. If I call it out beforehand you probably wouldn't have said it thus defeating the purpose.

So did you mean a Trump supporter who's also a hippy? I understand the hipster part but I dare say I can't fathom why someone would think me either a trump supporter or a hippy.
