i feel sorry for the guy....great player, and has never made any trouble, other than his affinity for weed....which in perspective with what some of the other NFL players do, is nothing.

thats too bad. like it's already been said, compared to some of the stuff that NFL players do, smoking weed is not a big deal...

he didn't let it slip away, it was taken, smoking obviously didn't hinder his ability at all. He'll probably just go back to the canadian league.

From the linked article:
Quote :
"Remember, he's been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder -- that's a real disease and a good percentage of those folks self-medicate with substances like marijuana, often at the moment they are about to have a high level of social interaction"

BULLSHIT! If it was a 'real disease,' then it wouldn't be called a disorder, it would be called social anxiety disease. Why do we have to make excuses for everything anyone does anymore, whatever happened to just being nervous or bad with people? I don't believe this is an excuse to 'self medicate.' WTF does that mean anyway? That's why we have doctors, diagnosticians, and prescriptions. Don't use some BS disorder as an excuse, take a fuckin' beta blocker like everyone else who gets stage fright or nervous around groups of people. You can get a perscription for it legitimately, easily, legaly, and without any other effects.

No more excuses, no more sympathy. You know the rules, you're not special, you have to follow them just like anyone else. The fact that Ricky is too selfish and undisciplined to follow the rules that govern his JOB, just like the rest of us do, is getting lost in a debate over whether or not marijuana is good/bad/no-big-deal and whether it should/shouldn't be legal, etc.

I'd imagine it would probably be pretty hard, especially considering that you've been doing it for a long time. Add in to that fact that you have MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to do with what you will, how could he not go out and buy some weed?

I mean, seriously--he's a guy who enjoys smoking and came into the NFL, which gave him a lifestyle to do what he's probably always wanted: sit around, smoke blunts, eat expensive munchies and play XBox without worry of where the money is coming from.

I'm not saying it's right, but goddamn it's got to be hard to stop. I'm fucking poor and I can't stop, so I don't expect Ricky Williams to.

He's always got minor league baseball to fall back on.

I'd be happy seeing him play in Kannapolis again.

hello and welcome to psychology.

dumbass.

however, on that note, i dont feel sorry for him, i'm sure he still has plenty of dough. he is living his life how he wants to live it and obviously he would rather smoke weed and live free then be in the nfl. however it is kinda sad that such a good player can't play in the nfl for such a stupid reason

Yeah I know. It was all part of a rant. I'm just sick and tired of today's society making excuses for everyone's mistakes. It seems every bad decision, lack of self discipline, every misbehaving child is excused from responsibility of their own actions by scapegoating a "disorder." I apologize for making my previous statement too literal.

still dont feel sorry for him and you have no reason to either. like i said im not judging him by whether smoking pot is wrong or not, but simply basing it on the fact that we are a structured society and we have rules and he knew them. Have I broken rules? Sure we all have. But, if we get caught we (myself included) deserve no sympathy for consciously breaking rules, especially in the kind of situation he could have had himself in. If youre willing to throw that away then too bad.

he hates a huge amount of people around him... this has been established....

he's expected to come back to the NFL to make money... the easiest way to get out of that with a good excuse is to smoke weed and get in trouble so he can go back to the canadian league where he enjoys playing. He just needed a good excuse.

I doubt he ever wanted to come back to the NFL, it was just expected of him

When Ricky unretired, that was tabled & is uneforcable, since Ricky did play part of his contract out. The Dolphins can really only go after the bonus portion for the year he voluntarily sat out, not the entire 8Mil he owed.

Wtf does ricky henderson have to do with anything?

In case you didn't know it (which you clearly don't) Ricky WILLIAMS played minor league baseball before going to the NFL for the team now called the Kannapolis Intimidators. (they changed their name a few years back)

that's actually not a bad theory.

actually, the more people that go against a stupid rule, the more likely it is to be changed.

and he didn't have it to pay back, hence his return.

doesn't make it right and is still illegal and punishable. If you want to enjoy the benefits of living in America, follow the rules that go along with it.

you won't find ANYBODY that has never broken a law and besides, this has nothing to do with America, it is a corprate NFL rule.....he's not facing any legal penalties from this.

I've already covered both of those. I was using the law as a principle of the matter. And I already stated that everyone breaks laws (including myself). However, because of this we deserve no sympathy when we do break them and get caught. (I wouldnt expect any either). Like I said, im not here to condemn or agree/disagree with what he did. Just stating that zero sympathy is deserved here.

At some point you gotta be an adult and take responsibility for your actions and too many pussies out there these days dont do this. Instead they want to whine and complain and hope some suckers feel sorry for them.

^^I just can't adhere to the "if Uncle Sam says it, it must be true" philosophy, and I never will....some laws are asinine, and I always have sympathy for those unlucky enough to be entangled in them, but that's just me.

in some cases. If you work for a company with a drug testing policy. Get some friends together and try to change the system by failing a drug test. See how that works out. This isn't a democracy, it's the business of the NFL. There are better ways to change rules/regs/laws than ignoring them.

There are better ways to try and change them then going against them. (and im sure Ricky Williams wasnt making any political statement and trying to change the laws by smoking pot heh)

If 70%-80% of NFL players started to fail the tests for weed, they could suspend them all, but then nobody would want their product so they would be forced to do something.

It's alright. You probably wouldn't unless you were a local. He actually took one team photo doing the heisman and then he tried to buy & destroy all of them later.

He can't hit a breaking ball anyway. He was a beast on the basepaths though.. when he actually got on that is. He leveled a catcher once.

is marijuana a big deal? if you think so, you should probably shoot yourself in the face

if he wants to play in the nfl, he should know better, thats just the way it fucking is.

in a perfect world/country it wouldnt matter, but we do not live in such a place

Somebody already hit on this, but yeah, he doesn't want to play football anymore.

I first suspected this when he retired, citing "I don't want to play football anymore" as his reason. The fact that he only came back because he was about to lose all of his money does not mean that he ever changed his mind about playing football. Now he has failed multiple drug tests after his comeback, despite knowing his "punishment" would be not getting having to play football.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

who does this benefit besides the government?

marijuana is not and has never been hard to find...why sacrifice quality and force government regulation when its really not necessary?

decriminalization is the answer...i live in a city that just chooses to focus on other things and not waste time fighting a losing battle against something that doesnt matter
