I recently had reconstuctive shoulder surgery and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to deal with the boredom. Undergoing a shift from very active to inactive, anthing besides reading, sleeping, and movies?

Get a Nintendo DS.
Buy one of the touch-screen only games like Elite Beat Agents or Big Brain Academy.
Play those games one handed.

Wii Sports is also a nice option.

i had reconstructive elbow surgery a couple of years ago. i used the time to polish a resume, read a lot, and watched a lot of movies.

don't know if this applies to you or not, but also spent lots of time in physical therapy, both at home and at the therapist.

I did crossword puzzles and practiced playing the keyboard when I was in the hospital after surgery. I think I also watched The Incredible Journey about five times.

this made me laugh

Where are all your buddies? Make them come over and entertain you :d You can play cards, other games, drink (yes I know you are underage just don't get caught ) and just because you can use your arm does mean you still can't go for walks and shit like that

Get better soon and stop fuckin' up your shoulder

NINTENDO DS

Play games.

Get final fantasy 3, and a do-nothing game like animal crossing or harvest moon.

Get 4 or 5 games and find a fun way to kill time.

Backround story:

back in April, 2006 I had spinal surgery. I had some old stainless steel rods and hooks taken out of my spine and replaced with titanium wiring, rods, and screws that fuse my entire spine solid. Also had all my ribs on the right side shortened by 2.5". So I was stuck in bed for a long long time. To over come boredem, when i wasn't in complete agony.

Boredom solution:

I had my computer setup on a table right by the bed with a wireless keyboard and mouse. the Monitor i used was a 24" widescreen DELL that had component input so I could hook up the xbox360 to it. So basiclly if i wasn't on the PC, i was playing Xbox. If I wasn't on the xbox I was watching tons of movies. I think I went through every season of Everybody loves Raymond pretty much back to back. lol. Most of the time I was in too much pain to do anything, so i'd have a movie on in the background for the added company. After a while you are going to get really anxious and there won't really be anything to do about it.

+1 for video games.

If it were me, I'd take the time to read some books. I used to lve reading, but with my job and family I never have time now. There are a zillion classics depending on what you like, and there's quite a few really interesting :self-help" books if that's your thing too. While it sucks, try and make the best of your incapacitation and even turn it into a positive experience.

when i had major surgery a couple years ago i was basically immobile for a couple of months and i read a ton of books. i used to love reading but just haven't had time to read for fun after i started college. i bought a lot of books at first then just got stuff from the library. i played the sims2 on pc for a long time too. movies are good.

if you have a wii, get super paper mario. you play it w/ the controller sideways (no arm swinging involved) and it is the best game ever.

that's about all i did for about 4 months. i watched alot of tv shows online also at abc.com, nbc.com, etc. lots of random internet surfing on my laptop w/ wireless also.

i'm able to get out now and actually do "normal" things again finally.

After my surgeries, I was either too drugged up on Morphine to care about passing the time or having a great time hallucinating the voices that whispered in my ear or the leprechauns parading around the room while on Dilaudid.

you can just walk i guess right? you can technically do a lot of things but you'll have to be careful

like, visit art galleries, museums, parks, etc. you won't be able to run around of course
