on the GRE for Vet School? None of the schools im applying to say anything about a number, just that they want "competitive". I did okay on it (i took it today), but not great...but I have a high GPA, good references, and alot of experience, so Im trying to decide whether to take it again or not...

They say competitive because the score you get needs to be in line with what other applicants are scoring.

What percentile did you score in for math and verbal? Also did you study at all or just go in and take it. I just went and took it, but I'm sure with some studying I could have boosted my english/verbal score a lot.

1200 or so combined for those two parts was safe when I applied to grad school.

For UC-Davis vet school these were the averages:
•Average GRE scores: Verbal (75% - 574 scaled score), Quantitative (70% - 702),
Analytical Writing (67% - 5.0)

Keep in mind that, in general, a lot of applicants to science-related fields will have good math scores. If you want to stand out, boost the verbal and writing.

^ yep and not only that but the math part is esentially identical to the SAT whereas the verbal part is much harder then it was on the SAT. Hence, why you see a score of 574 at the 75th percentile.

it depends on the school

many schools list average SAT/GRE/GMAT/LSAT scores for the current class
if you beat that average, you're probably competitive

i scored a 1270 and got in to 2 of the 4 vet schools where I applied, NCSU not being one of them .

A 1500 tends to get you accepted to most places.

the Penn Vet website reports that "The verbal score is about 569 and the quantitative score is about 702," but I think that was from the class of 2005 so it may have changed since then. good luck!

i got a 1200 and something (can't remember the exact number) for the math/verbal, and did reeeally bad on the writing (3.5 i think), but i got into state. i only took it once, b/c i didn't want to go through the writing part again haha.... they look at the whole package though, so i think you'll be fine

some programs dont give a damn about GRE.

for instance, my wife applied to a competitive grad program at the Univ. of Washington. they only really wanted to see GPA and relevant work experience..
