The doctor doesn't care. Hell, the doctor probably smokes weed himself.

dude wtf weed is not a serious drug just don't tell him, who cares?

I mean you can, but its basically the same as telling him I had 7 or 8 beers 3 weeks ago.

Oh christ, here come the stoners out of the woodworks.

What work are you having done? I forgot that I had smoked like 2 or 3 days before a doctor's appointment and had to give a blood sample, they never said anything (or even that they had tested for it.)

Generally that test won't be run unless it's been directed to.

there isn't any way to get in trouble for it with your doc. we always ask what drugs you might be doing, you tells us what you are doing, and it ends there. we might tell you its bad for you, but thats about it.

You stand a much greater chance of getting in trouble for posting on a public forum that you use illegal drugs than to tell it to someone who is bound to keep all information about you confidential.

Your doctor is legally obligated to keep everything that you say in the office and all of your medical information private and confidential.

Your doctor is not going to run a drug test unless you specifically request one, so the only way that your doctor will know that you use drugs is if you tell him or you wreak of the reefer. The only thing that your doctor will do with that information is caution you that it is potentially detrimental to your health and use it to make better assessments and treatment decisions. For example, if you suffer from a panic disorder, he's probably going to strongly suggest that you quit smoking pot. Or if you're a raging pill popper or alcoholic, he's probably not going to prescribe certain medications that have known interactions. Stuff like that.

If you think that it is relevant because of the reason you're visiting the doctor, go ahead and tell him because it's not going to hurt anything. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

your doctor is taking blood and urine samples to test biological functions, not for drug metabolites. he doesn't know and he probably doesn't care.

well, they do have to release your medical records when you are signing up for health insurance(if you get it yourself, like bcbsnc) You have to release those before you can sign up(pre existing condition check). That is only if you are unemployed or your work doesnt provide benefits and you have to get them yourself.

Just be honest. It helps us, and we really won't judge you.

When you visit the emergency department, chances are good that they will drug test you, but those tests aren't (and can't be) used for any legal purposes--they're all marked "not for forensic use" at the time they're collected.

The best way to piss off an ED doc is to lie to them about drug use and then have your urine screen come back positive--at that point, they can't trust anything you've told them.

they (doctors and/or insurance) will likely be very stingy should you need any scheduled drugs (esp pain killers) in the future if you are an admitted drug user

^Yeah, so your best bet to get those meds is to actually not use drugs. Crazy idea, I know!

I wouldnt mention it personally. Too many doctors are total assholes and being honest with them is only going to screw you over in cases like that. They'll happily and instantly tell you that doing xyz bad thing is the source of all your problems and that if you quit they'll magically all dissapear- regardless of what the problem(s) are.

That and if your medical records get released and it's on there, you're screwed too even with patient confidentiality. The less that's on there the better as far as things they dont need to know.
