I almost went to Raleigh Charter. Still, while it's a fantastic place, I'm quite glad that I ended up at Southeast Raleigh, because it did wonders for loosening me up as a human being. 5/22/2007 3:41:18 AM |

I went to the link and they said the rankings were based on a ratio of AP courses/Intl. Bac/Cambridge tests over students graduating...
that automatically eliminates some small and/or rural highschools who don't have the resources for a lot of ap courses and/or international bac.... They can still be "Top" high schools, just not based on that test... So don't be discouraged if your school isn't on it. 5/22/2007 5:44:32 AM |

hell yeah! Top 100! Though, if AP courses figure that highly into the ranking, they must offer a shit-ton more than they did when I attended (there were a total of 8 offered the whole time I was there, 94-98).5/22/2007 9:16:11 AM |

That poll should be called "Top 1257 Schools That Offer the Most College Level Exams Per Graduating Senior."

southeast raleigh used to be on the list the first few years it opened. Then all the smart kids graduated and the school became like any school found in an all black neighborhood. 5/22/2007 10:17:59 AM |

what a fucking joke. Maybe East Meck has a good IB program but overall the school has gone to hell. Since they redid the school zones in 2001. My cousin is a guidance counselor there now and from my younger friends that i left behind East is a straight up inner city school now. I hear stories all the time about gang fights in the bathroom, student's cars being broken into during the middle of the day, guns being found during random searches. I heard they even use metal detectors on students entering.
Then as far as Garinger if "ethnic diversity" and a high % of students on free lunch is a criteria for a "good" school then i guess Garinger fits the description. same could go for olympic too.
i do not see how either of these schools can be included yet omitting actual good schools like Providence, Charlotte Catholic, Providence Country Day, etc
