what happens if you draw a charge in a pickup game?

there is no such thing as a selfpass. if you shoot it and it is considered a shot you can get it back. you can always pick up the ball but people shield it and play punt coverage which is beyond me.

We play self passes because you can exploit it pretty easily

we dont play charges, unless its just ridiculous.

well occasionally you get a strong fast stocky deron williams or lebron type guy that bowls straight towards the basket at 99 mph and theres no way you can stop it without fouling him or taking a charge unless of course he misses from going too fast. then rarely you might get a shaq that throws you out of the way with his shoulders but thats rare.

i've never seen a charge called adn wonder how the pickup hooligans would react since they already don't know the rules and call self passes and stuff.

^so why don't you try to play the game the way it meant to be played? why make your own rules? sure if you intentionally pass it to yourself its a self pass but if you shoot and airball it you can still pick it up. you can always pick the ball up.

I play pickup ball 3X a week. We basically have an honor system and you call fouls on yourself. Thus if I drive to the lane and take a dude out, I call a charge on myself. Likewise if he hacks the shit out of me the next time, he calls his foul. We rarely have problems with this system except for the occasional overly aggressive new guy.

^^point is, its streetball...there are no refs, its not a league...different rules apply...obviously he shouldnt be elbowing you in the face and stuff but rule interpretation isnt going to be as strict as something more organized

another dumb thing is if you call a foul on the shot and make the shot the foul doesn't count. theres no such thing as a shooting foul in pickup ball. at the very least the foul should go away once the shot goes in. it just doesn't make sense.

If i go up and someone hacks across my arms and the ball goes flying ill call it.

^yeah we do the continuation. If youre shooting and you call foul, but it goes in, you get the basket and the ball goes the other way

There is no such thing as a self pass. It is traveling or is not. If it hits nothing and you move your feet, it will be a walk.

You can call a charge if it is blatant, but I'm typically not going to give up my body to take a charge in pickup game, ESPECIALLY if you are playing outside.

I swear this whole thread was a commercial. A fat, bald, white guy with goggles is talking to somebody on the sideline during a pickup game. I never call fouls in games, I mean just play it out unless you draw blood. Streetball is another animal though, they are generally looking for blood for a foul.
