other than GOODWILL OR SALVATION ARMY?
My mom will not donate to either so we are looking for other non profits like local churches or shelters that are in need of clothing...some everyday clothes and some business wear.....shoes, dresses, pants, shirts, skirts, suits, ties....
I've already got a lot of stuff going to Abbeygail's Closet (a non-profit who's $$$ goes directly to The Women's Center) but my stepfather's needs somewhere to go.
Also, does anyone know if Habitat for Humanity takes donations to be used in their houses? My mom is remodeling and has stuff like a marble sink and toilet and fixtures...etc.
One last thing:all this stuff is in Lexington so the Winston, Greensboro, Asheboro and surrounding areas are all up for consideration.
Any help is appreciated Thanks!

Quote : | "Goodwill is a network of 205 community-based, autonomous member organizations in the United States, Canada, and 22 other countries. Goodwill provides job training and career services to people with disabilities, welfare recipients, dislocated workers and other job seekers. The organization trains people for careers in fields such as financial services, computer programming and health care. Since its founding in 1902, more than 8 million people have benefited from Goodwill's employment programs, and in 2005 collectively over 846,000 individuals were served.
To pay for its programs, Goodwill collects and sells donated clothes, shoes, furniture and other items in its over 2,000 stores and on its Internet auction site shopgoodwill.com which is operated by the Orange County Goodwill. As of 2005, an average 62% of a Goodwill's operating revenue was derived from its resale stores. The organization also earns revenue and creates jobs by contracting with businesses and government to provide a wide range of commercial services, including janitorial work, packaging and assembly, food service preparation, and document management and destruction. Diebold, Kimberly-Clark, and the U.S. Air Force are among those who have tapped into Goodwill's services. Goodwill also receives public and private support – it is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, though on average only 2% of its 2005 funding came from monetary donations. " |
I donated all of my old furniture to my old church, and saw most of it at the Salvation Army the next week when I made some more donations. I'm not sure if some churches just take all of their stuff there. I'd just look on Craigslist in your area for desperate/poor people

^^Thanks for that information. I was not attempting to say Goodwill or Salvation Army were turning a profit.
My mom has her own reasons for not wanting to donate to these two organizations.
I'll edit my first post so it is not confusing.

Oh and I donated all of the doors from my old house to HFH. Just call the local office, they'll pick them up if they have a truck available 5/22/2007 5:31:48 PM |

Oh and there are a lot of companies called like "new professionals" or "fresh start" that are looking for business clothing donations. they give them to people who can't afford nice clothes for an interview or for their dress code requirements. 5/22/2007 5:34:00 PM |

The Brooks Ave. Church of Christ (on the corner of Brooks and Rosedale I think) takes all kinds of clothing and stuff that they can redistribute. I don't go there, but my wife and I have given all kinds of stuff to them. They seem to be a pretty well known place to go for clothing and such. 5/25/2007 1:24:55 PM |
