I have been working for the this "company" for about 2 years now. I like what I do and have free time to surf the internets and such. It's sort of a behind the scenes type job with some responsibilties/daily tasks. I work a lot during the summer and when i can during school time. I also get along great with everyone in my dept.
Recently they decided to "reorganize" the company. Our department is being merged completely with this other department. I have a feeling i'll be stuck answering phones all day and directing calls and generally dealing with a large customer base. This is not my type of job and NOT the job i signed up for 2 years ago that somewhat deals with my 4 yr degree.
It's not about pay really, I'm only getting like 7.50 an hour. I could find a better job/internship but I really like doing what im doing. Would be out of line to put in a 2 weeks notice if im forced to switch to something i don't like doing? or should I ask for raise beforehand? 5/23/2007 12:26:03 PM |

Don't ask for a raise unless you're going to stay if you get it.
If you're not happy with the change in job duties, find a new job and then give your 2 weeks notice. 5/23/2007 12:29:24 PM |

It’s very reasonable to put in a 2 weeks notice. Shit they’re making fundamental changes to the company, your position, and how it relates to your major. Not to mention the pay sucks and you can find an internship or other job that will make more and be of some relevance to your major. 5/23/2007 12:32:56 PM |

I wouldn't like the type of job I WOULD be doing when they finalize the reform.
I like what im doing as of 2 years ago and right now. A month or so from now would be a different story.5/23/2007 12:36:47 PM |

^ I see. And you are certain you will not like what you will be doing? 5/23/2007 12:39:33 PM |

I'm about 90% certain on what I would be doing. Answering calls all day and dealing with idiots over the phone who don't know how to work a computer is not what I want to deal with. 5/23/2007 12:41:16 PM |

^ Start looking for another job during the next thirty days. At the end of thirty days, put in your two-week notice--unless you haven't found anything. In that case, you'll just have to suck it up. Sorry. 5/23/2007 12:46:30 PM |
