Does anybody know anything about F. Wu who teaches MAE 208 this summer? Anybody out there ever taken a class by him before? He can barely speak english, writes diagonally, and uses some crazy notation. Is this normal for him?

Yikes

I had Wu for 208 back in 2004 and he wasn't good. At all. Like most MAE courses, I had to teach it to myself but this one was worse than normal. If it weren't for an awesome study group and a great TA, I wouldn't have learned a thing in that class. Good luck and switch to a different professor if you can. btw, the way he says "theta" is hilarious.

Yeah his Theta is like "ayy ya" or something. He also says calculus like cark uhl urs . He's like the TA I had for CE214... probably a really smart Chinese guy, but totally lost in the U.S. Ought to make them pass an english proficiency exam or something but whatever.

Yes

Will it help you master dynamics? A resounding hell no. You're already in his 208 class right now but it would behoove you to avoid him for 315. Oh yeah and

I sat behind you in that class. . I agree he said theta as if it rhymed with cheetah. I remember when he was out one class and Dr. Buckner came in and taught. Everyone tried to get permission to sit in on his class instead. I informed many of them that his lectures were available on unity in the J: drive. I don't remember how the hell I found them. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say.

That would be "theta-dot" AKA the angular velocity or omega.

I had him for mae315, and didn't learn much in class. He just kinda comes in, runs through the material and then runs a couple mins after class ends. He does talk kinda weird, and is hard to understand at times, and his handwriting is kinda hard to read (ex. his "Sin" looks like "S__") and pronunciation is hard to understand (zeta <-> theta, and Cosh = "Coach"). He's a really smart guy, and can help you when you come to office hours, but dont count on learning in class.

Thanks for the help everybody, I now know that if I ever take another MAE class to avoid this guy like the plague. At least his grade distributions don't look too terrible. Anybody know if he curves or what?

i think there was a slight curve in my mae315 class. I had a 89 hw average, 67 test average, didn't get project back or my final (which im pretty sure i did decent on both), but i got a B- for my final grade.

Yeah I'm pretty sure he curves. I somehow made a B+ in there.

well the rampant use of past tests pretty much eliminated the need to curve

that chinky nigga is bad, my 315 class dwindled to like 15 enrolled and 8 in class by the 3rd week. the only think i learned or found interesting was the shit about gears and stuff. only positive was the test that were problems out of the book, combine this with past test/solutions/allowed cheat sheets = profit. i have yet to see anything from the class applied so i wouldnt worry about anything more than the grade.
