im going to the race tomorrow and its my first one...i know the race starts at 5:40 and there is a military demonstration that starts around 3:00 BUT...what else is there to do pre-race? im sure there is some sort of "fan zone" or interactive things to do, im just not familiar with it. also if there is stuff to do is it inside the track gates or out? do people generally do that stuff then go tailgate in the parking lot before the race? any info would be appreciated. i tried to look on their website but i couldnt find too much information...

Just walk over by the souvenier trailers and I'm sure you'll find something. They always have little games, competitions, or exhibits at the tents for jack daniels, skoal, dewalt, lowes, home depot, etc. Is this your first race? Or just your first 600? It's kind of a boring race to get broken into the whole "live-viewing" of a nascar event, but still a fun day at the track. Have fun!

-there are trailers set out for every driver to buy memorabilia

-a fan zone surrounds the front of the stadium where you can play games/get free alcohol. Jack Daniels gives away samples.

-not sure which but either jack daniels or one of the other liquor sponsors give track tours. you go through their little trailer and at the end they take you down on the track and you go in the pits and get to see pretty much everything. this is the one thing i really recommend you try.

-if you have a favorite driver rent the radios that lets you listen to all the drivers broadcast as well as the radio broadcast of the race. It is pretty cool to switch to a drivers channel after they wreck and hear first hand from the crew chief and driver what happened.

hope this helps a little bit. I've been to Lowes 3 or 4 times and always have a blast.

I went...was in my seat for the flyover! LOVED IT!!
Went inield... LOVED IT!!
And saw a Hendrick driver WIN since Jimmie and Jeff couldn't! LOVED IT!!

just got back from the race myself. I had a great time! I dont have a favorite driver but I liked #2 for some reason so my friends and I yelled #2 every time he drove around.

^ yeah the flyover was awesome. Although you can see stuff like that everyday in Virginia beach. Leann Rimes was pretty bad in my opinion...but i was pretty drunk too...

would have much rather seen junior or stewart hang on for the win, but i'll take both of em being in the top 10. also good to see kyle petty get a top 5.

but seriously, hendrick has won 9/12 nextel cup races this season. something is fucking going on. they are cheating somehow and have just masterfully found a way to get away with it. although, i think they could do a better job of making it less obvious by letting other drivers win more than 25% of the time.

this just goes to show how bad of a driver mears must be to be winning for the first time now.

^vickers had passed him though, so really vickers would have been the benefactor of that i think. actually tony stewart got by him too before it was over. so even if all the cars that gambled ran out of fuel, rudd still would have finished 3rd behind vickers and stewart.

the battle a few years ago involved every branch of the military. the charges were so powerful that plywood landed all over the pits and infield. a few people were injured and rescue was called out.
