looking into a tv. i have these thoughts to work off of:

viewing of about 9-10 feet away
not alot of gaming at all
not using hddvd or blue-ray
looking into flat panel (lcd)

was also told that things would be broadcast in 1080p in about 5 years

I love my 1080p westinghouse 37"...

I use it for my TV on a comcast(maryland) HD box, my xbox360 which gives true 1080p and as my computer monitor (also true 1080p)... its freakin money

also anyone know why infocus 4805 would chop off tops and bottoms of the picture. such as sports scores and closed captioning?

if you want to hook up your computer to the tv, it would be useful to have a 1080p tv with 1:1 pixel mapping. but if you're just watching tv i would go with th 720p. The only way you will get 1080p for the next couple years is through HD-DVD or Blu-ray.

yeah but if you don't just go ahead and spring for the ever cheapening 1080p your going to be like all those people that jumped the early bandwagon and currently own 4:3 rear projection screen mamouth HDTV's...

i dunno about that. the aspect ratio really makes a difference. if you are like me and dont have great eyesight, the extra 260p (har har) aint gonna be as big of a jump.

contrast ratio (not dynamic, true measured real world contrast ratio), black level light output and 1:1 pixel mapping

are way more important than resolution

i have a vizio thats 1080. would an upconvery dvd player be better than the progressive scan that we have now. does anyone have an upconvert? i would like a blueray but i dont want to spend that money yet. also, how is the hddvd? sucks having a nice tv and nothing to really play on it. we cant even get HD tv here at ivy chase.
