I build this computer during my '05 summer before going to school. Since then i have added several upgrades and addons including
Gatewatch front lcd display with thermal sensors, onboard sound control, and fan speed control Gigabyte G-Power Heatsink that works very well (currently has arctice silver as thermal paste) VGA Fan Cooler Card with adjustable fan speed (fits in pci slot ideal for passive cards)
The processor and 2 sticks of ram are new as of 12/'06
General Notes: I have boxes for most everything (gcard, case, soundcard, cpu). Ive taken extremely good care of this computer and have put alot of time into making it look very clean. Performance is great, the opteron overclocks very nicely to a stable 3.0gigs and the heatsink keeps it cool.
Pictures are posted in my user info,

would be worth more if you didn't oc the processor.

why do you say that? processors last for 10 years or more, even if oc'ing cut the lifetime in half (which it doesnt) would you even keep it for longer then 5 years anyways? (unless im mistaken) 6/4/2007 8:27:03 AM |

right now sitting below my desk is a Beige G3 from 1997. still works and i use it to scan stuff and edit images in photoshop.
the problem with overclocking is that it causes electron etching in the processor. this can cause bad transistors and/or processor death. various other components on the motherboard also wear down quicker (capacitors, voltage regulators), especially if you up the voltage on the processor to achieve a more stable overclock.
so while AMD and Asus does make quality components, overlocking slightly devalues the processor and motherboard.
i came up with that offer because 1. Its a legacy system (socket 939, AGP, DDR, etc) 2. overlocked 3. I have to buy a power supply.
From ebay and stores you can get: 2.6ghz proc- ~70 Asus A8V- ~50 SB Live(5.1)-~5 120gig- ~40 DVD-RW-~30 Corsar(4x512)-~100 6800GT-~70 Case-~50 Total-~415
and half of those prices are for new stuff. if you get a better bit, great. but that is my reasoning behind my initial 250 offer. 6/4/2007 3:26:03 PM |

i see what your saying, and i agree that oc'ing wears the processor down faster, but faster is a relative term in this case. Processor life is so long that the extra wear'n'tear that oc'ing does isnt mentionable imo. I feel that the fact that you can pay 220$ and change (roughly) for a 2.6 and then oc it up to a 3.0 clock effectively saving you the extra 100$ or so that you would have to spend to buy a 3.0 clocked proc to begin with. But i DO however see your point, buying a used processor that has been more or less "tampered" with... 6/4/2007 4:31:27 PM |

got to agree here, it's a quality motherboard, quality memory and obviously he was running a decent PSU. There's no way a system like this should be devalued because of overclocking. 6/4/2007 4:55:12 PM |

G3 rocks, my bro has one and still uses it daily. After 10 years, it still works like a charm. 6/4/2007 5:51:35 PM |

i agree that that mobo and AMD are quality products, but i have seen even heavily cooled processors fried. just depends on each individual processor
without the games i can't afford to go over 300. 6/4/2007 10:19:49 PM |
