Bottom Bay is easily better than every beach on that list. But if we are sticking to the US, El Matador over in Cali has my vote

Myrtle Beach is quite possibly the WORST beach I've ever been to.

I refuse to go back, even to N Myrtle.

What a shithole.

There is not a whole lot I can say to defend the place. If you like strip clubs, pancake houses, and putt putt you'll probably find something to like. Despite what most people think we do have nice clean beaches that aren't crowded.

There is no way in hell that it is the world's #1 beach.
South Carolina's #1 beach? Maybe.

The Pavilion? They tore that down. Soon to be replaced with the Hard Rock Theme Park. A perfect compliment to the KISS themed coffee house which is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.

Myrtle Beach is the GREATEST. There are 500 stores that sell the same stuff just different colors, all for $5.99. At every corner I can get 5 authentic Myrtle Beach t-shirts for $10.00. And don't forget the seafood. I'm 100% sure every restaurant there has crab pots in the local waterway and boats right off-shore catching everything I eat ...........including the Alaskan crab legs

What a joke.

bwahhahah

I used to go there once or twice every summer through middle and high school. My step-mom's parents have an ocean front condo a couple miles north of the Cherry Grove peer, closer to the inlet than the Grand Strand. I still like Myrtle, it's a fun place and there is tons to do..granted it has trashy areas and is super commercialized. However I do not see it being in the top 10, top 50 or 100 for that matter...much less #1.

Obviously the list was looking for beaches with lots to do....out of all the ones listed, Myrtle has the most entertainment......like the Dixie Stampede!!

But N. Myrtle is actually really nice, huge resorts....and until Southern NC beaches get more than 3 hotels total - N. Myrtle is the only decent place to go for a long weekend.

Best quotes yet....

haha... Myrtle Beach is no 1?

what a joke!

no 1 has to be some beach on some tropical island, like mauritius or maldives or something.

it is a list by yahoo... no wonder. check out lists by discovery or national geographic. i watched a program on discovery "10 best beaches on the world". that was a very good list.

HAHAHAHAHAHA...was this list published on April 1st or something? I've been to at least 10 beaches world wide and within the US that put commercial beach to shame.

as far as that list goes...how can waters of places like Hawaii not be number 1? are they rating who has the best putt putt golf? or who has the best actual sand and water.

This is funny, I mean myrtle beach could have cracked the list several years ago..and why is a beach with tar on the list? (Santa Barbara)

I was hoping to see the world one day, but now that I've seen the endless array of Eagles stores and Timeshare scams that is Myrtle Beach, I can die with the satistfaction knowing there is no better place.

Key West and Miami?... I live in Miami and know that the beaches aren't that great in these places.

Sydney?

MYRTLE BEACH?!?!?!?!?!?!

wtf?

From AndyMac's link list:
Quote :
"9. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, FL
Escape the Miami scene and go seven miles south to the tip of tranquil Key Biscayne. Join hungry beach strollers for gourmet fish fare at the Lighthouse Café."

right in my backyard
