Swapped out my pads with new pads about a month ago. Still get really really bad and loud brake squeal. I greased them up when i first put them in but that didn't seem to help. (front only btw) I went with Hawk HPS' simply because they were available locally, way cheaper than stock pads from the dealership (299 for fronts) and they don't dust as much as what i had before for track (HP+)

any other causes for loud brake squeal?

bed the pads? not really
didn't resurface the rotors though...i guess i should have done that. Was thinking about getting new rotors. Haven't experienced any vibrations when i brake so i didn't think it was rotor related.

theres the problem, you need to resurface the rotors, and sand the pads, put it back togather and break it in right, smooth rotors will glaze pads in no time

should i do all 4 rotors while i'm at it? I never resurfaced them when i swapped out my stock rear pads for my track pads...about to swap my stock pads back in the rear too.

Where can i get them resurfaced? And how would i go about doing this? Just leave the car up on jack stands, remove all 4 rotors...etc?

You can take the rotors to pep boys I believe, but... I would just switch to a real pad (non Hawk) if I were you. With my last set of carbotech's I just take a steel wool pad, go over the rotor by hand, spray some brake cleaner and throw the track pads on -->bed, and it's all set. I'm now running XP10 (second from highest compound), with merely a noise every once in a blue moon.

So, you comin' to VIR or what home slice?

I just bought these HPS' but I will be buying another set for the track when it comes time to go out on track again. These are just for street use

When you going to VIR? the ITR expo thing?

and how much does it cost to get them resurfaced + can i get a ride there?

oh and how long does it usually take? while you wait or do i have to leave them over night...

takes about 10 min, $10-15 each, loop rd auto parts in garner is usually the quickest cheapest, and they have a good machine shop

this might sound like a dumb question...but does it make a difference between right and left as far as surface rotation when they re-surface them?

not sure how that process works exactly.

i always mark them and put em on the same way, not sure if it makes a difference

I imagine you have directional rotors. Either way, I wouldn't worry about marking (if directional, it'll be obvious, if not directional, won't matter. You could mark them if you want.


Aaanyway, I'll give you a ride if you want, how'bout we take them tomorrow before lunch, have lunch and we'll pick them back up afterwards.

different brake manus. have different procedures.

some say go from 40 or so to 10 a couple times..

then cruise without brakes then do 40 to 10 real hard a few times, then repeat the cooling cruise..

then part and let cool down.

thats what i did with my carbotechs.

i do 60 - 20 after the 40 - 10 and then usually step it up from 60...but without overly exceeding any legally posted speed limit.

I think the first time i took my stock pads out on track...it did the job never squealed once after that.

generally, you dont need to resurface them.. just give them a good bedding. if youve already done did it somehow, then you might need to remove some glazing. you can scrub it off w/ steel wool

i've swapped back and forth between track pads and street pads (including Hawk HPS) on the same rotors many a time w/o trouble. There is a difference in feel before and after bedding, though.

I don't think youd have this problem w/ your brakes, but w/ crappy single piston calipers like mine, the calipers can flex causing tapered pad wear. You can flip flop pads around to try and reduce this

yeah i read on the EvoM forums that resurfacing rotors was a bad idea. I bought some brake cleaner now i just need some steel wool. I will also try bedding.
