“PackPlus” is an internal newsletter done by the NC State Athletics administration for the athletics and academics community on campus. “Coach Fowler” usually writes a propaganda piece extolling how wonderful things are within his Athletics Department. In the column Fowler writes, he spells Sidney “Sydney” not once, but twice. Everywhere else in the article (columns Fowler doesn’t write), Coach Lowe’s first name is spelled correctly.

i dont see why people hate fowler so much.

1. Talks shit about NC State fans
2. Makes NCSU look like idiots in the national media w/ pitiful coaching search
3. Won't stand up for our right to tailgate more than 4 hrs.
4. Didn't even hire O'brien (he found us) and then claims credit and reaps benefits
5. Won't get rid of a coach unless they have an absolutely pathetic showing (volleyball / football) - in both cases I felt really bad for both coaches b/c it was so pathetic.

Where did he claim credit for "finding" O'brien? He hired O'brien, and he should get the requisite credit for that.

You're obviously referring to his refusal to fire Herb. If you are worried about NCSU looking like idiots in the national media, then you're contradicting yourself. I certainly wasn't satisfied with Herb's record, but firing him would have been guaranteed bad publicity that would take years to shed.

How an AD handles these types of situations is an indicator of how he handles his whole job in general. If he is willing to just sit there and watch as one of our athletic programs suffers, then that should be an indicator of how he handles other programs. Fowler is only concerned about making sure HE doesn't get fired, he only acts when he HAS to. He should be proactive not reactive. He waits until shit hits the fan before he even tries to find a solution.

Name one instance where Fowler has made a heads up move. A good AD knows the athletic programs and can see problems coming at them before they happen.


The Athletics Director should be involved in anything that has to do with the sports programs. I know he didn't make the rule and he can't change it, but he should have been meeting with Oblinger trying to do something about it. Notice that when Oblinger decided to change the rule he included Fowler in the discussion. This is b/c he is the ATHLETICS DIRECTOR. I think it is pathetic that the Chancellor had to initiate a meeting w/ Fowler, it should have been the other way around w/ Fowler looking out for the fans.

This is why he sucks. When is the last time we won a conference championship in anything significant. Avent is turning into Sendek, but Fowler continues to extend his contract during the season.

Would you want to pay two coaches at one time for a sport no one cares about? No. Let the woman finish her contract, don't retain her and then hire someone new.
