my grandma used to just lop off all the feathers along the wings

[Edited on June 10, 2007 at 5:51 PM. Reason : doesnt have to be lopped super-near any skin though]

I would think just the feathers on the tailing edge should do it

but I want to be sure before I do it

I would pay someone to do that for me, I don't want to hurt them

I have a pair of mallards that come to my door for food 5-6 times per day...

but I'm gonna move eventually and would like to put them in my pond at the farm so they can breed there and they can be out in the country

Isn't it illegal to capture wildlife like that? Especially to render them unable to protect themselves (ie escape)?

yea how would they get away from predators Greg?

Just buy some day olds from McMurray and raise em. They'll bond with you and shouldn't leave.

My friend is trying to sell some gold star khaki campell hybrids (or something like that) excellent layers. 6 females. she raised em and they follow her around.

and she's got some annoying guineas so she needs to get rid of

I'd rather move them where I can take care of them than to let them stay here

I don't give 2 shits if it's illegal, I'm only transporting them within the state, plus it's not like fish

I know they are mallards not some invasive species with a disease

but I'd rather them stay since they are a breeding pair

well, there are no predators where I would keep them other than avian predators...

these have already bonded, they've come here every year for the past 4 years now they're at my door all day long... they hear my truck and are at the door within 5 minutes

I'd prefer to just have these ducks since they're like pets... even if I don't have to clip their wings, I'm sure I can keep them around

In my experience ducks that are attached to their owners never leave or migrate south

well....don't move....stay for the ducks. And if anyone asks why you decided to not move, say you were too attached to the ducks. Or box em up and take them with you, no need to clip the wings
