Yeah, no one probably cares about the LPGA, but this to me is interesting.

Michelle Wie - 73-74-83-78 -- 309 21 over in the women's US open, ten shots behind the next to last players at 11 over, and a mere 35 shots off the winner, Patterson.

Is this just her wrist, or is she on her way to becoming irrelevant? Was ESPN actually right in that she should've focused on winning first before trying to compete with the men?

i dont pay attn to women's sports, but i saw something in the paper about how she quit b/c if she kept playing, she might make a high enough score to keep her off the tour.

u really can't dispute that....she withdrew again...she could have shot 102 for all we know

I really think that she should just take her show on the road and play people heads up for like $10,000 a match b/c soon that is the only way she will make money

I mean you can't really blame her though...$5 million a year just for playing shitty golf? But then again I see them pulling the plug on her really soon.

Tiger was a golf prodigy but he stayed where he belonged at his age....in the amateur tourney.

She her dad smelled that money and got her competing (and making a fool of herself) at a level where she doesn't belong.

Can't really say I am sorry for her....and I really thought this might happen.

Her dad/parents are just pushing the issue too much. She has never won against women so why play men?

Also I like girls like Creamer and Pressel who have earned their stripes and are actually WINNING tournaments.

her wrist injury is bullshit.

The day after she pulled out of her last event, she was seen out practicing.....her response:

"I have to play to strengthen it"

wtf?? is she dumb?

And who told you that? Your personal Wie reporters?

My sources tell me that the day after she pulled out of her last event, she was seen at the worlds top wrist specialist getting treatment. Sadly, neither one of us can prove any of this, so its kinda pointless. But what is known, is she is hurt. And thats a fact, unlike our claims as to what she has and hasn't done in the past.

Her problems started way before her wrist injury in December. She hasn't broken par since last July. How many professional golfers go a year without breaking par?

"And who told you that? Your personal Wie reporters?"

It was reported on ESPN that Wie was practicing days after withdrawing from the Ginn Tribute. Here is one of many links on the topic.

Quote :
"Following her withdrawal at the Ginn Tribute, Wie showed up two days later to practice at Bulle GC, site of the McDonald's LPGA Championship. And the persistent question that lingers over the entire situation is this: If her wrist is bothering her so much that she needs treatment from a physical therapist while on the golf course, and if it has caused her to withdraw twice this month, why does she continue to play? "

You're just making yourself look stupid, RoyalFlush

Quote :
"Wie, coming off of a wrist injury, pulled out of the Ginn Tribute after shooting 14 over through the first 16 holes. The explanation from Wie's camp as to why she pulled out? "I had issues with my wrist". She "tweaked" it. Not buying it. And newsflash Michelle, nobody is buying it. The real story behind Wie's pullout was likely an odd LPGA rule that says if a non tour player shoots an 88 or above in any round, they are not allowed to come back for the rest of the year. Wie was two bogeys away from hitting that mark. Now, Wie and her camp denied that this was the case. Wie said, "Shooting 88 is not what I think about." Just a coincidence. Well, don't take my word for it. Consider the facts as presented by Eric Adelson on ESPN.com:

"Missing the cut became the least of Wie's troubles. The somewhat obscure Rule of 88 states that a nonmember who shoots 88 is forced to withdraw and subsequently banned from LPGA co-sponsored events for the remainder of the calendar season. Wie said later that she never considered the possibility, but soon after her score ballooned to 12-over on the par-72 course, her parents began consulting with each other and William Morris manager Greg Nared, who had a cell phone to his ear. Chris Higgs, the LPGA chief operations officer, soon drove up in a cart and spoke with Nared. Higgs had been talking about the Rule of 88 in the media tent, but he said he came out to Wie's rope line for "no particular reason."

Wie's score climbed to 14-over, and then, after Wie finished up on the seventh hole, Nared spoke to her briefly before she announced, "We're not going to play anymore."

Wie had a 43 on the front and was at 7-over 35 on the back -- two bogeys shy of 88. She shook hands with her competitors, glumly climbed into a cart, and rode to the clubhouse, where she met behind closed doors with her parents and Nared. The four spoke for 15 minutes, then an ice pack was brought in for Wie's left wrist. Wie then walked to the media tent without the ice pack."

So to recap:

- The LPGA COO was talking to the media about the 88 rule.
- He then drove over to Wie's manager and had a conversation.
- Wie's manager soon afterward talked to Wie.
- Wie withdrew.
- She then talked to her parents for 15 minutes.
- THEN Wie is brought an ice pack for her injured wrist.

And to make matters even worse, Wie's playing partner Alena Sharp had this to say about Wie:

"She wasn't holding her wrist," Sharp said. "I think she just had a bad day. If it was her wrist, why wait until the last two holes [to withdraw]?"

America is not stupid Ms. Wie.

And neither is the LPGA: they knew that they were two holes away from losing their biggest TV draw for the entire year, and it would appear that they stepped in to stop it from happening."

^ Which is unfortunate, because her parents are the ones to blame.

On top of pushing her too hard, her parents now have her in the mindset that quitting when you're not successful is okay.

What she should've done is finish the round, take her 88, and say to her money-grubbing father, "I'm going to go back to amateur tournaments where I belong, get my confidence back, and when the time comes, show these pro motherfuckers who's boss" (assuming she can, which I'm not that sure of any more).
