...in its list of the 25 greatest sports stories in the last 25 years

Quote :
"Jim Valvano in a daze, trying to find someone to hug, is as unforgettable an image as Lorenzo Charles, moments earlier, dunking after grabbing Dereck Whittenburg’s desperation heave to give North Carolina State the 1983 NCAA men’s basketball title. How improbable was it? N.C. State was the first champion with 10 losses, had lost six of eight in one stretch of the regular season and only qualified for the NCAA tournament by winning the ACC tournament. But the Wolfpack never gave up."

it'll be a shame, soon that achievement will be too old to be included on any "past 25 years" lists...

but state fans will still talk about it, and bitch that nobody respects it...

You know, people are going to bitch and complain on this website about that, but as a level headed NCSU sports fan (more so than most lunatics), I just don't get how they came to that #1. Wow, 1 guy helped his team make the playoffs vs "X guy led his team to 5 superbowls, yada yada yada"

It's just bogus for it to be #1. UNC grad write the story?

it's only been a year. this is the kind of shit sportswriters spew when the guy they declared months before the draft as a lock to be the number one pick doesn't go first.

I'm sure the Broncos regret not getting Dan Marino
And the Bills are kicking themselves for taking Jim Kelly

"Passing by the rest

QB Dan Marino is bypassed by 22 teams, falls to Miami with 27th pick of ’83. John Elway (1st), Todd Blackledge (7th), Jim Kelly (14th), Tony Eason (15th) and Ken O’Brien (24th) are QBs taken ahead of Marino, who sets significant passing records."
