From http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Quote :
"COACH CHIN PLOTTING HIS RETURN?

A league source tells us that there is already talk in league circles that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher is planning his potential return to the NFL. Per the source, Cowher already has spoken with multiple teams about filling a potential vacancy in 2008.

The source also says that one of Cowher's demands will be full control over the football operations.

The teams, the source says, are believed to be the Browns, Redskins, and Panthers. Another league source confirms that Cowher has had at least one private discussion with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder about the possibility of replacing Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, if Gibbs calls it quits after the 2007 season.

We're also told that Cowher has begun the process of discreetly lining up a personnel executive to run the front office, subject to Cowher's final say on all roster moves. Per the source, the list includes Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert, Steelers business operations coordinator Omar Khan, Chiefs executive vice president and COO Denny Thum, and Saints vice president of football administration Russ Ball.

Is any of this surprising? Yes, but no. With Cowher expected to be the hottest commodity on the coaching market come January 2008, teams that think they might have a coming opening would be stoopid not to commence the process of seeing what it would take to get him.

Money is a key component in this regard. We've yet to hear anything about Cowher's expected salary, but we suspect he's hoping to get at least as much as Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren (who is in the $7.5 million to $8.5 million range), given that Cowher beat the Big Show in the Big Show less than 18 months ago.

Wow if the Panthers have ANY shot at Cowher, Fox needs to go.

And Carolina is my second favorite NFL team.

Foxie isn't going anywhere unless the Panthers tank this year.

Granted, the Panthers aren't title contenders, but given their easy schedule and above-average talent, they'll make the playoffs and Fox will stay on board.

Id love to see Cowher with the Panthers...almost enough to make we want to see that tank. Id still rather see them win, but if not Id rather see a tank than a much more likely 7-9 / 8-8 / "we'll get em next year" type season.

yeah, I think the only reason he would go to the Panthers is cause he wants to stick around his family in North Carolina

the Redskins are probably willing to dish out a ton of money for him, but his interest is probably not too much beyond that

he played for the Browns from 1980-1982 and got his coaching break with the Browns from 1985-1988, and I do believe that he has said in interviews before that he would like to coach in Cleveland again.

of course, he could still come back to his alma mater

fucking a.....one of my buddies that refs highschool bball games met him last night and said he was the man. This guy is a Clemson fan non the less. He didn't get in any football convo with him but if we get him for the Panthers that would be fantastic. 4-5 years in Charlotte then home to coach the wolfpack!

I hope you people don't consider yourselves Panther fans.......short of a less than 5 win season, there is no way Fox should go. Cowher won 1 SB in like 15 years as the Steelers Coach....he's not any better than Fox.

i agree, Cowher is a great coach don't get me wrong but there is no justification to remove Fox. Fox's results speak for themselves.

Quote :
"Inheriting a team coming off of a 1-15 season, Fox has directed Carolina to two playoff appearances, two NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. In those four seasons, the Panthers have averaged more than 10 wins a year, and Fox has compiled a 41-30 overall record. In doing so, he also has story. The 41 wins in four years more than double the Panthers total in the previous four seasons (20), and his impact was immediate. In his first season, Carolina improved its record by six games, from 1-15 in 2001 to 7-9 in 2002. The six-game improvement was the best in the NFL that season and the best jump for a rookie head coach since the League instituted the 16-game schedule in 1978.

Says common sense and an unbiased view.

There are at least 4 AFC teams which are head and shoulders above the Panthers in terms of talent.

I've been saying that he's going to coach the browns since he retired. I remember saying it in a previous thread and treetwista pretty much laughed at me

^^i'm still laughing cause its not gonna happen

IF he comes back, regardless of his previous asst coaching with the Browns, it will be for a contender...he's not gonna coach the Browns for the next 15 years until they finally make the playoffs

Jerry Richardson doesnt seem like the type of person who would just fire a quality coach like Fox for somebody like Cowher...maybe Belichek

Let alone we just got a new offensive coordinator who has yet to coach a single game

as a steelers fan, if he's going anywhere but steelers, it better not be the browns...

i'd be ok with the redskins but he would run that shit and not snyder

panthers, meh i guess, then maybe theyd see what its like to win a super bowl

definitely wouldnt go to the panthers, we already have a solid defensive minded coach who's led us to a division title, NFC Championship, and Super Bowl in 5 seasons...enjoying the same successes of what Bill Cowher generally had his first years, granted Cowher went i believe the 6 seasons in a row.

Foxy is fine

cowher will taint his career if he goes to a shitty team that will take years to rebuild and I seriously doubt he would stick it out with a team like that

I think they'd be much better off with who they have now. Let's not act like Cowher is some master of winning Superbowls. Yeah, he had an awesome run of good regular seasons, but generally he was a choke artist come playoff time. Sure, he won one, but that was after a fluke play in the Colts game combined with a Superbowl with the most lopsided refereeing.... ever.

i really like Fox, i would hate to see him go. hopefully cowher coaches the nfl for another 6-8 yrs, wins another superbowl or two and then comes to state when o'brien is ready to leave.

not gonna happen, but at least it's something to dream about.

I cant imagine a scenario where foxy would be shown the door after this season. He's done too much for the panthers to be treated in such a way. I would love to have cowher if we didnt already have a great coach.

Haha you are kidding right? Fox has underachieved every year but one so far.

Cowher's teams never had that much talent yet they found ways to win....Look at his Super Bowl team, it had less talent than this past years' Panthers team. Delhomme is terrible but even he is better than Ben Roethlisberger.
