Anyone else getting this crap? I havent signed up for ANYTHING with my ncsu addy, but keep getting this junk.

The subject and "From" is different every time too. Has anyone had any luck setting up a filter for it?

I got a lot of shit from him, and it took a while but I finally got one filter to work:

Sender contains "PrincetonUniversityHumor@yahoogroups.co.uk"

Use Thunderbird. It has a built in learning spam filter.
It won't work fantastic for the first few days because you have to teach it. Anything that comes in as spam--mark it as spam. After a little bit it'll start to get better. Make sure you white-list your address book.

Or you can also use the server-side junk mail filters, which pull data from Sophos and other anti-spam sources.

The other methods here, such as Gmail and Thunderbird filtering, work fine as well. But the advantage to using server-side filters is that you're not wasting time downloading headers or messages that you didn't want anyway.

^ The default filter ITD sets up was not sufficient the Dr. Howdy spams. I've had my filters set (actually, even stronger than the Sysnews tool's) and they still came through. You have to set a specific rule to filter them.

Specter: I wonder if anyone's forwarded any of those messages to Spamhaus. We receive data from them, so it sounds like something that the filter doesn't know about.
