After a random number of minutes my screen will go blank, but everything is still running in the background. Like if I'm playing music or video, you can still hear the audio. When I cut the computer off and cut it back on it works again, but does the same shit over.

I'm using XP

Its windows doing it, try selling it on ebay or craigslist.

There's a student special going on right now on macs, you get a free ipod

^ if that were the case, wouldn't i still be able to see an image on the screen, but just very dim?

okay i looked at the screen closer and with a flashlight when it went dark again and it is the backlight i guess

So I did a little googling and apparently, a lot of people have had problems with this laptop and it's either the inverter or the lcd screen itself going bad. I ordered a new inverter to see if that's the problem b/c it's obviously much cheaper than an lcd.
