I am sure it's some liberal's fault somewhere. Once again you post a lot of stupid links without saying a damn thing about what any of this has to do with anything. If you want to report the news then go cuddle up with your pal O'Reilly.

but no crimes have ever been committed using private resources.

For example, if banks were controlled by the government, then there would be bank robberies. But because banking is a private industry, no one ever robs banks.

Study Faults Planning for Raleigh-Area Traffic Flow

Quote :
"[David T. Hartgen-a professor of transportation studies] argues that Raleigh-area transportation officials spend too much on transit—buses and plans for a train. He would like to see more spent to finish Interstate 540 faster and to widen I-40 more."

Quote :
"The Locke and Reason foundations that supported the work historically don't support mass transit efforts, such as the Triangle Transit Authority. The TTA didn't want to comment on this latest research, but a spokesperson did point out that a citizen's committee is about to begin a six-month study on congestion."

Women Have Seen It All on Subway, Unwillingly
Sara Payne, who rides the No. 1 train to work in the Bronx, says she has been flashed six times in eight years

By ANEMONA HARTOCOLLIS
Published: June 24, 2006

Quote :
"It is a hidden reality of the New York City subway system, and perhaps mass transit systems everywhere since the first trolley car took to the tracks. It begins with a pinch or a shove, someone standing too close. But it can be much worse.

This week, as the Police Department announced the arrest of 13 men charged with groping and flashing women in the subways, women around the city nodded. Yes, they said, this had happened to them. Yesterday. Last month. Last fall. Twenty years ago.

'Every girl I know has at least one story,' said Barbara Vencebi, 23, a studio photographer standing outside the No. 6 train station at 116th Street in East Harlem yesterday.

It is a crime abetted by the peculiar landscape of the underworld that is the subway system, by the anonymity of a crowded car where everybody is avoiding eye contact. And by the opportunity for a quick escape at the next stop, to disappear behind a pillar, into a tunnel, up an escalator.

An impromptu survey of riders during the morning rush yesterday found that, for many women who have experienced it, the worst part of the crime is the sense of helplessness. What is the right way to react to a humiliating, but not life-threatening, situation? Should you announce to an entire car of strangers that you have just been violated?

Most of the time, the women said, they seethe inwardly but say nothing."

Sarah Garland, Kate Hammer and Emily Vasquez contributed reporting for this article.

^^ Exactly. Have you ever read the police blotter for Cary? It reads like "Elderly man reports that 3 of his golf clubs were taken from his garage when he accidentally left the door open over night."

And as for groping... have you ever been to a concert? Anytime you have a large crowd pressed together, some jackass is going to take the opportunity to grab a girl's ass since it will be difficult to pin it on him.

In other news... the Internet is full of pornography and people cursing and acting like assholes to each other!

In 2 yrs of commuting to work on the NYC subway and using it to go pretty much everywhere I've never had an incident, be it with friends at 3pm or alone drunk off my mind at 3am

I don't know if you can say it's "riddled" with crime. That implies that it's at a crippling level, when overall, it's probably a relatively uncommon occurrence.

A few anecdotes can't prove this anyway.

Midnight Robbery at Subway Station [CA]

Quote :
"He stabbed a TTC ticket taker before stealing cash from the collector booth and setting it on fire, and now police need the public's help in tracking him down. Authorities were called to the Lawrence West subway station overnight, and when they arrived they found the transit employee suffering from two non-life-threatening stab wounds. They believe the suspect first doused the booth with gasoline, then threatened the employee into opening the door. When the victim did so, the suspect attacked with a knife and proceeded to steal a small amount of cash."

Bus riders appreciate beefed-up security
by Jessica Mador, Minnesota Public Radio
May 30, 2007

Quote :
"St. Paul, Minn. — Homicides on public transit are rare, with just eight recorded nationally between 2002 and 2006. But three recent deaths in the Twin Cities have raised concerns about the safety of Metro Transit buses.

The latest was a shooting on a route 74 bus in St. Paul that killed a 16-year-old. Before that, one man died from head injuries after he was pushed off a route 10 bus in Minneapolis. Just days before that, a man was shot on a route 5 bus.

On a recent day, Minneapolis resident Bertha Nelson is waiting for the route 5 bus on Chicago Ave. in south Minneapolis. She takes the 5 at least four times a week, and is no stranger to bus violence.

'I've been on the [route] 21 bus, I've seen people get on beating people up. And I was on the 18 bus when some guy got shot on the bus,' Nelson says."

http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2007/05/17/bus1/

My new mass transit slogan: Ride with us! You may be beaten, injured, groped, flashed, robbed, shot at, ejaculated on, and exposed to exotic odors--but you probably won't die!

Revamp the Subway

Quote :
"To the Editor:

Re ''Fall From Subway Train Kills 3-Year-Old Boy' (news article, Dec. 6):

The New York City subway is in a shambles. Trains run late; they are overcrowded; the conductor's address system is faulty.

Train cars are dirty and smelly. A number of platforms in all five boroughs are unsafe, and passengers have recently been mugged.

Trains speed at the driver's whim: some very slow, some very fast.

Many token booths and entrances are permanently closed. Escalators often don't work.

The tragic death of Austin Mei renews the call to revamp the once-prized New York subway."

Once again, as after the 11 of March Madrid bombings, people are reluctant to use public transport in the capital. Many feel the risk is just too great to take.

Bully for you. The fact stands that, statistically, a person is far more likely to find themselves in serious physical peril in a private automobile than in public transportation. Your particular case does not erase the overwhelming body of evidence.

Though I suppose in your mind it's somehow preferable to have a high chance of your head thrown through a windshield rather than a low chance of getting shot.
