Cancellara is a straight up BEAST.

Hincapie didnt look too bad either.

My overall prediction is a win for Levi Leipheimer.

Yeah, that's pretty nasty for a solo time trial.

I hear tomorrow's stage is pretty flat, so there should be some good sprinting to watch at the end.

Yeah, that was damn impressive by McEwen. I didn't know he had even made it completely back into the peloton.

it wqas funny...during the last kilometer or so, every time they cut to a helo shot, I kept thinking I saw lotto jerseys near the front. those domestiques did one hell of a job getting McEwan back into the peloton and in position to win

Yeah, that finish yesterday was unbelievable. I had totally written McEwen off, and all of a sudden THERE HE WAS, sprinting with a vengeance.

I didnt get to see today's stage yet. I'm at work

is this super exciting (sarcasm) bicycle race starting soon, or should i say ending soon???

cause im starting to see all the seasonal POSER cyclists in my way on the roads now and it FUCKING PISSES ME OFF!!!

and its only during tour de france times, once it over at least they will stop posing and pretending to be lance armstrong

I really don't get the hate for bikers. Maybe they are like me. When I have to work the weekend and the dress code is relaxed, I bike to work to save gas and get some exercise. What's the problem? I'm not trying to be anybody.

I can understand that you don't appreciate cycling as it isn't for everyone.

Bikers are all over the area at all times of the year, albeit more during the summer when the weather is nicer. Depending on where you are, chances are that I may be one of those bikers, though I'd never pretend to be anywhere near the Armstrong caliber.

Has anyone been able to get the daily video clips on versus.com to work? I've tried on 3 different machines at work and at home and it sticks at loading forever.

also, I have no tv. does anyone have a good overview of how to watch online?

... friend just showed me the feed linked on http://www.cyclingfans.com while I was typing this.

man, that was a nasty crash at the end of the stage today

as far as the comments form the kid who wishes he could have gotten into Michigan, are you sure it's not just your selective ass memory pairing the tour with seeing cyclists on the road? because I know we've been out in full force since April down here in Atlanta. either deal with it or go move back to your shithole hometown where people can't ride bikes for fear of getting shot by some eminem wannabe

Thomas Vaitkus (Team Discovery) had to drop out of the race today. He fractured a thumb in the crash yesterday. It's funny how you can ride with a broken collarbone, but a thumb pretty much screws you. Sorry to see him go, especially so early in the race.

If Cancellara could climb, he'd definitely be a contender with the team he has behind him.

I'm curious if any of you know why Tom Danielson wasn't picked for the Discovery Team as he's the named heir apparent of Armstrong (and even climbs better than Lance by Lance's own admission).

Granted, I missed many of the other races this year on TV (though I have them DVRd) so maybe he got injured or something else?

I'm really not sure. I know he had a parasite and giardia this year that was causing him problems. Don't know if that lead to the exclusion or not.

gonna not post the link, since apparently VS tv is threatening legal action against sites that publish their super-secret streaming TV link, but they've left it up and running. So there exists a link to stream the channel live (so races start at 8:30am eastern and end ~11:30).

watching in the library FTW!

terrible day for astana...first kloeden crashes (and is a doubt for stage 6) and then vino gets tangled up and loses over a minute.valverde and sastre had punctures too but managed to finish in the main field. so all the favourites have problems even before heading into the alps in a couple of days.

i saw pics of Vinokourov online and it looked nasty...hope he's ok (yes, I spoil the fun by looking at the results before I can watch it live)

can you pm me the link to the feed?

heading into the Alps tomorrow. DSC is only 3 seconds behind CSC in the team competition, Hincapie is 43 seconds back of the yellow, with teammate Gusev 2 seconds behind him...and he has a 6 second lead in the white jersey

BTW I saw the IMAX on the tour the day befor the start. It was filmed during the 2003 tour (the one where Lance got taken out on a climb by the pocketbook). It was pretty good, but if you're going to see it reaize it's about half tour, half discussion onf the physical and mental reactions to pain and endurance.

haha, yeah I saw that. Man, you gotta feel bad for Michael Rodgers. I have to say this: Levi Leipheimer is overrated. Maybe he's just talked about a lot b/c he's possibly America's best hope for this year's tour, but I just don't see it, nor have I seen anything that makes me think he can win the tour in the past couple of years. A contender, yes, but not a champion. I hope he can prove me wrong, but after watching today, I just don't see it happening.

By the way, go Linus (Good grief). It would be cool to see someone obscure like him to win, but that won't happen.

Anyone know the reason behind the different colors on the back of Team Astana's helmets? Looks like Vinokourov's is the only one with white - so team captain - but the rest are teal or yellow...

super ride by rasmussen to stay in yellow but the tour has been turned upside down with this time trial.looks like its going to be a great race in the pyrenees and the final time trial.

Contador is a beast. If I remember correctly, Discovery also has Basso. Put him on the team with what they already have (obviously minus 1 to make it 9), and there is a monster team. I wonder who would be the team leader.

Great stage today. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Disco is already having team leadership problems.

You have Contador, Leipheimer, and Hincapie.

I'm glad Contador took today's stage though. Impressive riding.

(Adds McQuaid and Millar quotes)
By Julien Pretot
PAU, France, July 24 (Reuters) - Astana team leader Alexander Vinokourov failed a dope test after winning Saturday's Tour de France time trial, his team announced on Tuesday.

They did not give any further details but a cycling source said the Kazakh, who has won two stages on this year's Tour, tested positive for blood doping.

"I cannot comment on this until the result of the B sample's analysis," International Cycling Union (UCI) president Pat McQuaid told Reuters over the phone.

British rider David Millar, who was holding a press conference in Pau when the news broke, said: "Jesus Christ, I'm speechless. It makes me sad. I have the impression the riders will never understand."

Millar served a two-year ban and was stripped of his gold medal from the 2003 world championships after admitting taking the banned blood-booster EPO.
