Adult Swim is now playing Bleach every night during the week.. They started from the beginning and they're up to Episode 16 as of last night.

Saturday nights are still new (to AS) episodes.. think they're on 38 or 39.

I seriously dig this show... it has taken the place of Ninja Warrior as my late night guilty pleasure on tv

I started watching this when I lived in Japan, then I came back here and saw this. The voice acting is horrible. I actually sent it to some Japanese friends who know no english and they thought the voices sounded retarded as well.


I love the jap version and the comics though

the movie comes out on dvd too

Isn't that pretty much true of all dubbed anime? Although this is not to say there aren't any good voice actors (I think the guy who does Ed from FMA did pretty well, and let us not forget the ever versatile and talented Steven Jay Blum). Or are you talking not so much about the quality of the voice acting and more about how well the voices match the characters?

It seems to me that the primary problem with the process of dubbing is getting the words to synch up with the lip movement. I've noticed many times in dubbed anime where there will be odd pauses in what is being said, or the character attempts to quickly speak the next part of the sentence. It doesn't "flow" right, and it's because they're trying to force the sentences to match up with the lip movement. To me this seems to be one of the main reasons why English dubbing actors tend to do a bad job.

All that said, I think this series kicks ass. I need to get back into watching it.

Well the fact that they can't even say their names correctly really freaked me out. If you're going to butcher Japanese names and words as bad as they do, they should really just change them to something in english, at least it would flow more naturally.

they do enunciate the hell out of every syllable

the real problem with a lot of the voice acting isn't that try too hard to sync up but that they don't try to fucking sound like human beings

look at a good dub like cowbody bebop or ghost in the shell stand alone and its reasonable that most of the voices could actually come from a normal human being

^^ claymore is really good, think of it as a female version of berserk, but i'm kinda made that they are diverging from the manga now to end the series.

What episode of Claymore are they on? AFAIK from the one's I've seen, they have been almost exactly like the manga.


As with any long-running manga, it's becoming too far-fetched and complicated to follow. One minute some guy comes along with power level 1000, then some other douchebag comes along with power level 2000, ad infinitum. Just end it already.

im in the minority saying that most dubs dont bother me. i prefer them because, though i dont mind reading subtitles, if im going to watch a show late at night or in a marathon, i dont feel like reading. similarly, i cant do other things while watching else ill miss something important instead of just listening.

I don't think Naruto has a bad dub and the few times I watched Bleach thus far weren't hideous either.

^^ they were exactly like the manga until it got to episode 20, now they're chaning the raki/priscilla story.

and yeah, like naruto, bleach is getting a little long in the tooth. but at least for naruto it looks like kishimoto is getting ready to end it fairly soon. lots of shit has happened in the last few chapters

the naruto dubs are horrible as are the bleach ones, the only anime i've ever seen where the dubs weren't bad are fma and kenshin, and still extend a stiff middle finger and a vocal fuck you to whomever decided to license deathnote

I agree about Full Metal and Kenshin, I got the FMA series from my roommate and watched it so I think the dub isn't too bad. That spirit/demon fighter kid show didn't seem too bad at all either, although I hate that CN only showed the final episodes like once in the time the series was on, I was never able to catch the final fights.

Bleach is definitely pretty bad though, I saw a few of the Japanese episodes and the voices can't compare at all. Pretty good series though.

Something I've noticed from trying to watch the Subs on a couple of different websites is that none of the translations are the same. I know there is some discrepancy in the language switch, but some are just retardedly far off from their counterparts.

I just need to learn japanese i guess...

Oh, and the Japanese voices are way better than the English ones. I finally see what you all are talking about.
