Quote : | "Sting Operation Uncovers Illegal Sex Toys
-Emily Wood, News Channel 12
Jackson Police make three arrests after an undercover operation uncovers illegal sex toys at two adult bookstores on East McDowell Road in Jackson.
Police told News Channel 12 phone calls from neighbors led them to investigate Secrets Adult Bookstore and the McDowell Adult Bookstore. Undercover officers entered the stores Monday morning and purchased illegal sex toys.
Harry Rosenthal, 66, and James Henderson, 53, were arrested in connection with the Secrets Adult Bookstore. Misty Jordan, 34, was arrested in connection with the McDowell Adult Bookstore.
"This was supposed to be a clean operation, and that's why I'm wondering what was found here," Harry Rosenthal, the owner of Secrets Adult Bookstore said.
Rosenthal said his store manager called him when police started raiding the business. He claims nothing illegal was happening at the store, but when he came to check things out, police took him away in handcuffs.
Just down the street from Secrets, another man with with ties to the McDowell store also questioned the police raid.
"They just started taking boxes," Charles Hobby said. "Some of those boxes, I understand, had lotions, massage oils."
Hobby works out of the same building as the McDowell store, and he tells us he sees everything.
"They just got a shipment of materials in from their distributor yesterday, and 77 boxes, $7,000 worth of merchandise," Hobby said.
Hobby said he believes it should not matter what was in that shipment.
"They've got a license hanging on the wall issued by the City of Jackson that states they can sell anything they want to, anything," he said.
The three arrested face charges of posessing sex toys with the intent to resale. They are all in custody at the Hinds County Detention Center and could appear in court as early as Tuesday. " |
If the police want sex toys, they should have to buy them like everyone else.
And how did these up-standing "neighbors" know what was going on in an adult bookstore?
And yes that is the reporter's name...I did not make it up.

You forgot to mention that the three people arrested are in custody at the time of this article. So not only is it a crime in Mississippi to posess sex toys, but the punishment is apparently imprisonment. Compare that with most states where the punishment for soliciting a prostitute, a more serious sex crime, one would think, only carries a fine. 7/6/2007 10:50:59 AM |

What the hell is it with these people who make laws governing sex? Who cares what people do in the privacy of their own bedroom? If you find it offensive or just don't want to know, then don't ask. But then again this is Mississippi, one of the more extreme parts of the infamous Bible Belt.
I wonder what passage in the bible specifically talks about the regulation of sexual intercourse? Or at least the part that these fuckers have distorted to be able to interpret it however they want? And what is it exactly about sex that makes these sorts of people so uppity? 7/6/2007 11:17:38 AM |

There are laws like this in a lot of states. IIRC Georgia also has a fairly restrictive law against a lot of different products. 7/6/2007 11:21:25 AM |

why doesn't bush spread freedom in his own country before taking it overseas, which so far, i might add, has only led to death, destruction, and fear, IOW, the complete opposite of freedom. 7/6/2007 11:28:06 AM |

in texas you can buy a dildo, but it has to be purely cylindrical with a smooth taper. you can not buy one that is formed to imitate a penis.
i found this out when my friend from texas came to visit me back in NC.... his girlfriend wanted him to buy a dick-shaped dildo... this was pre-9/11... i dont think youd want to bring that in your carryon nowadays....
anyhow, i picked up some anal beads to try on my girlfriend at the time. apparently you can get anal beads in texas, just not dick-shaped dildos. word of caution, just make sure your gal has emptied herself out before using the beads, or youre gonna have a surprise when you pull them out. 7/6/2007 11:59:55 PM |

Its not like criminal activity was spilling out in to the streets as a result of these windowless sex shops. In order for people to know what was going on in there they would have to go inside the stores themselves.
God forbid those dildos fall in to the hands of responsible sexually active adults. 7/8/2007 1:11:12 AM |

double-ended dong-shaped dildos with prominently raised veins are not only a Constitutional Right, but a God-given American tradition.
I mean, who hasn't enjoyed a little ass-to-ass action after the family Thanksgiving dinner. it's better than Greg Gumbel's postgame commentary, anyhow. 7/9/2007 5:10:20 AM |
