Wanted to branch off from the 'annoying espn personality' subject and pose this question
What things should never be shown on ESPN? I'm not gonna say hockey or soccer...even though they're not my favorite sports...THEY ARE SPORTS....here are a few I can think of that are not sports and should never ever be on ESPN
- Eating Contests - Paper, Rock, Scissors - Spelling Bee - Poker

man, i was just flipping through last year and stopped in time to see a nationally sanctioned competition to see how quickly kids could stack and unstack cups
no joke
hunterb2003, ncsupackman8, and prb185 can all attest to this if you don't believe me; because frankly, i wouldn't believe me either 7/9/2007 5:29:42 PM |

what else are you going to show on a summer afternoon7/9/2007 5:32:29 PM |

baseball, racing, golf, etc
obviously july sucks as as far as sports goes...but they are ESPN...they are a multibillion dollar company...they should be able to find something sports related to put on...hell even 'Playmakers' was about footall even though it was a soap opera

cubs games, opening rounds of golf tournaments, and drag racing
that's about all you have for a summer afternoon in those sports
somewhere or another you're going to have to stick in poker reruns
airing live events costs money, espn is run by jew faggots

I find the Poker to be entertaining (and apparently so does the rest of the viewing public as it is one of the highest rated things ESPN shows), but here are some things I've seen that I can't see as entertaining or as a sport:
- Mathletes - Scrabble - Dominoes
The eating contests happen, what, once a year (Fourth of July)? Is that so bad? 7/9/2007 5:43:32 PM |

^^yeah well at least sports have new stories that change...new developments...injuries...trades...off field arrests...new coaches...new recruits...rumors
paper rock scissors has 3 possible combinations...same 3 combinations its always had since forever

b/c baseball has about as much action as your espn scrabble tournaments, spelling bee's, poker, etc.
if i am trying to sleep and had to choose between watching an NCSU lecture whatever local channel they show them on and some baseball I am not sure which i would turn on first. At least they have had drug testing at NCSU for a lot longer than baseball.....
(and i do like live baseball games btw)

You clearly don't remember the early days of ESPN before they had any deals in place for the major pro sports leagues. It was ALL random shit like tractor pulls, cheerleading, etc. over the summer. they did have college sports, but beyond that it was a wasteland of randomness and NHL. 7/10/2007 9:57:03 AM |

^and now they have those deals with all the big companies, so they dont really have any legit excuses for showing all their crap 7/10/2007 10:00:48 AM |
goalielax All American 11252 Posts user info edit post |
i'm pretty usr ethere are other channels than just ESPN that show MLB games. They have to work out deals with the MLB to show games. They certainly can not afford to broadcast a continuous stream of games. Nor would the home markets be happy if suddenly WGN, TBS, et al. suddenly could not carry home baseball games to show to the public - instead everyone would have to have bacle to watch their team.
But I'm sure you have some way to get ESPN the additional billion or so dollars they'd need a year to carry baseball games from noon until 2am, don't you?
Nobody forces you to watch. Why don't you go outside instead of bitching up a storm over shit only you seem to care about. 7/10/2007 10:52:02 AM |

WORST THING EVER ON ESPN:
The current "who's now" bullshit, gay ass list that is a complete waste of time and I am sick of seeing it on ESPN.
As for the other stuff mentioned here, I like watching the hot dog eating contest and the World Series of Poker is good entertainment (poker shows on all other networks suck huge). 7/10/2007 11:06:37 AM |

think of it from a business side....would you rather watch baseball between the brewers and the blue jays (two teams no one cares about outside of their perspective regions), or watch a fast paced (once a year) hot dog eating contest.... 7/10/2007 2:01:42 PM |

That's cool that is your opinion and all but I never really understood this. Football is the same way yet it's the most popular sport by far. :10 of play, :40 of huddle/lineup, :10 of play, :40 of huddle/lineup.
It seems to me the sports with the most constant motion/action are soccer and hockey, and we all know those aren't very popular.
At least to me, and it's probably because I understand it the most of the major sports, baseball is constantly moving. I love watching the batter/hitter confrontation and I love the strategy of the game... football is a close second.7/10/2007 4:03:52 PM |
