this is gonna sound bitchy, but whatever...

if OU's crime was that they "demonstrated a failure to monitor" then how the hell does OSU get off on the Clarett issue, since they repeatedly stated an ignorance of what he was doing?

I want OU to pay me for the bets I lost by going against them in 2005.

I agree that Ohio State should get a punishment like this too for Clarett and USC for Bush.

:sigh: I'll play the role of the OSU homer again.

OSU knew about Clarett's off the field issues, and even went as far as waving the red flag against him on one occasion. This is a pretty good synopsis of his time with the buckeyes:

Quote :
"Clarett's time at Ohio State University was marked by some troubling incidents. He was seen yelling at his position coach during the Northwestern - Ohio State game in the 2002 season. In December 2002, he publicly blasted OSU officials for not allowing him to fly home for the funeral of a friend and accused administrators of lying when they said he had not filed the necessary paperwork. In July 2003, Clarett became the center of an academic scandal when a teaching assistant told the New York Times that Clarett had received preferential treatment from a professor; the investigation later concluded that there was no solid evidence of academic misconduct. Clarett was then suspended by Ohio State for the 2003 athletic year after being charged for filing a false police report claiming that more than $10,000 in clothing, CDs, cash and stereo equipment were stolen from a car he borrowed from a local dealership in September 2003. Athletic Director Andy Geiger stated that Clarett received thousands of dollars in special benefits and repeatedly misled investigators. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser criminal charge in that incident.

Clarett dropped out of school and moved to Los Angeles, where he befriended members of the rap community who provided him with a beachfront Malibu property, a rumored 10 luxury cars and illegal drugs. During this time, he sued to be included in the 2004 NFL Draft but lost in court. Subsequently, Clarett worked with trainers in preparation for the 2005 NFL Combine, hoping to impress for the upcoming draft.[3]

wish this could have happened to Louisville or West Virginia or some other convict school. Bob Stoops seems like a good guy.

Am I the only person that thinks the "taking the wins from two years ago" bit is the most worthless punishment ever?

if they forfeit all their wins, dont they then forfeit any bowl that came because of that?

I would think that they would have to forfeit the bowl and because of that pay back any direct earnings from the bowl

so I didnt read the article until just now. disregard this post

Hilarity, you can't be serious, the athletic director resigned because of the saga. You don't resign if you had no hand in the wrong doing. And the only reason clarrett lied in the first place was to protect his coach, Tressell. Once Clarrett was hung out to dry by the administration and by his coach, yea, he did some terrible things, but the catalyst was Tressell hanging him out to dry. If you think that no member of the OSU athletic department had no idea about that dealership "loaning" out cars, you my friend, are as naive as it gets.

Moving along, Stoops is a stand up guy, and I hate it for him. I thought he took the necessary steps to fix the problem, he kicked the kid off the team once he found out about it in AUGUST, 3 weeks before the season started. What else could he have done. Show me the last time a star player was kicked off a team for an NCAA violation (i.e. not a violation of the law as with Clarrett once Tressell hung em out)

Chris Henry, too - at least former Canes aren't suspended for a combined season and a half
