do you think are ignorant people who vote a particular way because their daddy and everyone else around them does? I'm talking people who would support a guy just because he has an "R" next to his name and yells "Earnhardt!" and know nothing else about him. Or people who vote for a guy with a "D" next to his name because they assume all D's mean "pro choice, no religion". OR, though rare, my favorite is people who vote for a guy with an "I" next to his name because "they are smarter than all the idiots who buy" into the two party system.
Say we were to eliminate these voters somehow. Through a political competency test or any other means. How do you think the system would be different. An answer of "There would be a much larger democrat/republican majority because all republicans/democrats are ignorant" will not count without explanation. 7/13/2007 8:36:49 AM |

For Republicans, I'd say between a quarter and a half. For Democrats, I'd say between a quarter and a half.7/13/2007 2:11:19 PM |

You want to get rid of 50-75% of the voters? Then better be ready for a people's street revolution because only a small minority of the population is eligible to vote.7/13/2007 4:12:41 PM |

This was done, as part of Jim Crow, to prevent black voters from being able to cast their ballots. It is unconstitutional, period.7/13/2007 4:22:49 PM |

I'd have to say it's pretty bad when you have college educated people voting based on which college team the candidate roots for 7/13/2007 6:36:06 PM |

this is a big problem in my opinion, too many people vote for a damn party instead of a person who reflects their interests and views. for example my mom is an AVID democrat, but she votes this way becasue she thinks she is supposed to....yet if you asked her her stances on the issues, 90% of her views fall in line with republicans or conservatives...yet she still votes the way she thinks she is "supposed to". too many people vote this way 7/15/2007 1:44:30 AM |

This sentence hurts my head.
However, as far as voting for who their parents believe in, I did a nifty survey in high school of about 180 students on their political views and their parents' views. Once all was said and done, kids mostly followed the beliefs of their parents, and they had a slight tendency to lean democratic (every category was shifted around 3-7% towards democratic). It even applied to the kids who had parents that didn't give a fuck about politics, their kids didn't either.
I don't know if this continues when people grow older, or if they have a tendency to turn into republicans once they hit some "magic" age point, but hey, just sharing a FWIW moment with you.
