So basically I am curious to hear the views about the afterlife from a wide range of people. I will start the discussion by saying what do you think happens when we die? Is it just instant black and loss of any sort of conciousness or is there another plane of existence. Is death like the bible tells (heaven n hell etc) or is it like a astro physics alternate realities and stuff.

When we die, our corpses are decomposed by bacteria and provide nutrients for further life.

So, I guess that's afterlife in a taoist sense.

yes but you know what i meant by the original post. this wasnt meant to be a religious discussion by the way, more of a "coast to coast AM" weird theory discussion

me personally, i would like to hang around in some way or another just to see how fucked up the world gets after i check out, just to say to myself "damn i am glad i left when i did" like when you leave the party before the cops show up

if this is going to be a "coast to coast AM" weird theory discussion then we should begin by finding a crank author and interview him for an hour. That show scares me.

Anyway, I think that after death we continue to live either with God or without. What that means physically I'm not sure, I think it is possible we do not experience time in the same sense after death.
I mean its possible there is some sort of multidimensional time which is hard to fathom much here. You could think of our current state as a particular restriction of that bigger reality. The bigger reality can interface freely with our plane of existence, but the converse is does not follow. Essentially the flatland idea that lower dimensional beings cannot exhibit higher dimensional existence.

I have no evidence to think that anything happens besides the end of consciousness, but I sure as shit hope that isn't the case.

Depends on God really what happens after death. No one really knows and for anyone that claims to know is very Phariseeic of them.

I believe that even after you die, there is still at least one task left for you to perform, like jumping from a mountain or managing to climb a set of moving stepping stones. Either way, the ultimate goal is to catch the flag at the top of the pole before automatically entering the pipe to the next world.

^^ in saying nobody knows are you not implicitly saying that there does not exist a dead person who knows. But, this means you have ruled out the possibility that people can live on after death and know that they did that. Therefore, you know about life after death. Congrats.

More bullshit. You can't be alive after death. Don't be a dumbass.

And either way Republican18 was implying that there were all these people among us who know and don't say anything while people who do share their opinion don't know. And that's some serious asshole bullshit, especially considering he didn't say anything while asking the rest of us to share. What a little prick.

When I say "nobody," I mean nobody alive. And when I say "alive," I don't mean your bullshit, "I'm dead but I'm still alive" nonsense...I mean "alive," like a fucking doctor uses the word.

And if you really wanna get into it, there's the possibility that afterlife is a unique, distinct experience to each of us each time we die...so somebody could experience it, have some thing explain the meaning of life to him...and then he could return to Earth as a living human with this "knowledge" and still not really know cause he only got his part of the story. So, yeah, I'm right when I say that nobody alive can really know.

And even after you die, there's the possibility that you won't know: 1) because you're not a sentient being anymore, 2) because you're a different sentient being, 3) because the afterlife does not include the concept of "knowing," 4) etc...

And we're just scratching the surface here. This conversation is pointless and superficial, as usual.

maybe you've heard the term "afterlife" if it was agreed upon that there is no life after death then it seems that the "afterdeath" would be more apt. But, lets ignore the semantical blackhole into which we are about to plunge, people often die for several minutes then are revived. Even in your very limited idea of "life" these folks get to know something about the afterlife (if there is one).

but if you buy into that whole reincarnation thing I thought it came hand in hand with something to the effect of "it is as likely to be brought back as a human as it is for a grain of rice to stand on the head of a needle" at least that is what I learned in this super uber boring movie "Cave of the Yellow Dog". They then justified the sanctity of human life on the scarcity of human reincarnation.

Further, they have no way of knowing what they experienced was an afterlife or that they'll get the chance to experience one again or if everybody has an afterlife or if only some people do or, or, or...
