They played a show near Baltimore tonight backed by the motherfucking Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. It was quite possibly the best show I have been to, and they should release orchestral versions of their songs post haste.

And the chick in the band is the ugliest female I have ever seen.

The decemberists aren't exactly a supergroup.

Is there a live recording?

I bet it sounds awesome with that orchestra in there.

I saw them last night in Atlanta. It was awesome... beautiful with the orchestra... but WAY too short. It lasted seriously an hour and some change... 90 minutes max. "I Was Meant for the Stage" and "The Tain" were the highlights.

Lowjack, did they play the same setlist as they've been doing for the other orchestra shows?

The orchestra gave them a very grandiose sound that was good for this outdoor venue. This show was 2 hours, but there was an intermission.

^I don't know about the set list.

Yeah, it was similar to:

The Crane Wife
The Infanta
We Both Go Down Together
Bagman’s Gambit
Odalisque
Perfect Crime #2*
Los Angeles I’m Yours
The Tain
O Valencia*
I Was Meant for the Stage

They played Mariner's Revenge for the encore. Our O Valencia was w/ orchestra

The Atlanta one had those plus 16 military wives (w/o orchestra).

Also, the show was by no means a sellout. Capacity was 16000, but a large swath of the middle seats were empty because they were expensive as hell. The cheap indie kids sat on the lawn. The few of us who had seats in the back were able to move up to the baller middle seats no problem.

^^ yeah, I was amazed at how empty the atlanta show was also. My girlfriend and I had the whole row to ourselves, and we could've easily moved up to empty closer seats

$50+ tickets cut into the budget for black-rimmed glasses, canvas shoes, and tight ass dickies.

I saw em at bonnaroo, hadn't really listened to their set but i enjoyed it.

and I was really close to the stage as i'd been waiting there since 1:00 for the White Stripes and Wolfmother. so i can't really comment on the whole "didn't fill the 2nd biggest stage" comments

what i meant by that is that the show they put on translates better in an indoor theater as opposed to an outdoor venue in the middle of the afternoon.

it's much better in a more intimate environment

"Perfect Crime #2*"

If there is anyone out there that isn't familiar with this song, let me hum a few chords.

The perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, crime.

That's one of my fav's. It's like they couldn't figure out what to put next and just kept repeating the same thing. Very talented...
