Who locally offers rental at range, and what do they offer?
Looking to put a hundred rounds or so through an Springfield XD, have been looking at them for months and really want to have some range time with one before committing to buying it. Anyone with other suggestions as to where to go to rent, or other guns to suggest can feel free. My gun i WANT is a Colt Combat Commander series in .38 super, but due to it being ridiculously high priced, and the necessity of hand loading to feed it, I am looking at other options till i have a spot to set up reloading equipment again.

Ive been in Davis probably 15 times yet never actually looked at their range, always been there just to get one thing or to price guns. Since their website is (still) under construction in places, any clue as to what sort of selection they have for rental guns and what their range + rental prices are?

^^ pretty good selection of handguns

rates are usually $5-$10 per gun and a small range fee

i think i've heard more good stuff about Davi's in this thread than in the rest of my life altogether

(i.e., I've heard mostly bad things about Davi's)

I was a big fan of PDHSC when i lived in raleigh (http://www.pdhsc.com)

^^ I just found out that Davi's gives a military discount of 10% on all firearms and 20% on all accessories. Seeing as I'm looking at getting a Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter for ~$1000, thats not a bad deal.

Other than that, yeah, I've heard a lot of grumbling.

i bought an XD-9 about 2 months ago and love it....the slide release is a little stiff but its beginning to break in, but so far i havent had one misfeed and i've probably ran 1000 rounds through it... lawmens has the best price on the gun from what i found while shopping around.

^ don't use the slide release. I assume you bought it for self-defense and under any high stress event, you're going to be sweaty and lose control of your fine motor skills. Snatching the slide back is a lot easier than fumbling with the slide release and thats what most places teach now anyway.

^Yup. Also, using the slide stop to release the slide can potentially wear the slide stop notch to the point that the slide will not lock back.

[Edited on July 16, 2007 at 11:30 AM. Reason : I admit, I have a bad habit of using the slide stop during IDPA matches to save time....]

Stay away from Davi's! place sucks.

Eagle one should be open by now. I checked out the range the other day and it looks real nice. only handguns, but all the shit you can't do at davi'd, double taps, draw and shoot, etc, you can do at eagle one. its located at the end of the road where davi's used to be near khanki.

also, I bet that if you asked about a military discount at Eagle One, They would hook you up. real good bunch of guys runs the place.
