Got a Pentium M 1700MHz.

It always varies among 208, 592, and 1690 MHz.

I want to disable the throttling so that it is always running full speed (I'm trying to play a game but it keeps slowing down when the cpu tries to throttle down).

You can disable speed step in your bios or with intel's speed step utility. However, it shouldn't throttle itself when its under load unless you're on battery and its gonna die.

You're sure that it's clocking up and down during the game? Could be some application doing something in the background taking up processor power....I've just never heard of a processor, especially one that speed clocking down during any intensive application, might want to look into that as a bigger problem too...

100% sure.

BIOS did not work. I changed it to "Fixed Full Power," and I alt-tabbed out as soon as Deus Ex slowed down, and sure enough the clock was back down at 600MHz.

And what the fuck?? My power scheme also says "Maximum performance" when plugged in (which I always am), and it STILL throttles down.

Heat? I guess that's the only way.

I have completely disabled Intel SpeedStep and anything else I saw that could even possibly be related to "power management."

And it still just throttled down mid-game.

^ The CPU will still be working continously and, thus, generating heat. Once the heat builds beyond the laptop's ability to cool, the CPU will throttle down to limit heat and prevent damage.

yea. Thermal management overrides everything since it prevents damage to the cpu.

^^ An overheating processor can literally explode, which can be dangerous. There's no way it's gonna let you keep it running at full speed til it blows, that'd just be stupid.

Make sure the fans are working and vacuum the dust out to make sure it's getting properly cooled.

I did indeed try WoW for a four month period last year. It sucked so bad and got so incredibly boring that I cancelled and sold the discs. Now I pretty much stick to my old collection of 1998-2000 era games. Deus Ex happens to be my favorite game ever, perhaps second only to the Journeyman Project.
