Quote :
"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live. "

Our dog will sniff out your injuries and infections...but this is weird.
They need someone to see if Oscar's work is statistically significant.

Damn, they beat me to it.

This subject belongs in the lounge. It is a serious matter.

Makes you wonder how many crazy relatives would like to shoot the pus.

I usually like cats but if I saw that one coming towards me, I'd definitely tell it to GTFO.

Every time I've been within four hours of death, I couldn't give a fuck if a cat came and sat next to me.

I'm very allergic to cats. I would hate to be in a nursing home and have one plop down next to me. I would probably have an allergic reaction that would trigger significant difficulty breathing. Maybe the cat isn't helping these people.

Ever wonder how centuries ago people came up with the idea that cats would suck the life out of people?

there's probably hormones/biochemicals released when the body is all "please standby windows is shutting down"; and i bet certain animals can detect them. its nothing paranormal, we just don't understand the phenomenon yet. we'll just call it a sixth sense for now.

exactly what I thought of.
Then I thought of that terrible Stephen King movie. Not the one where they thought the cat was stealing the babies breath and it was really a grimlin (another wives tale due to the babies milk), but the one where the mother and son had a weird sexual relationship, but they could turn into monsters and could only be killed by cat scratches.

So does the cat ever curl up next to someone who doesn't die? Cats sleep.. a lot... people die at nursing homes a lot... shocker that a cat would sleep near someone who dies.

If that cat came up to me I'd grab it by the neck and say "you first."

And then the nurse would have to explain why Grandpa strangled a cat shortly before he died.

Thats a great way to traumatize the grandkids.
