What is the gasket called that goes between the exhaust pipes? I remember it being a metal gasket but don't know the name. Are there more than one?

...on a 97 mustang GT changing the stock exhaust pipes to an H-pipe.

probably called a flange or collector gasket. i'm assuming you're talking about where the h/x pipe mates the the manifolds?

also, most of the parts places will have pictures of all the exhaust gaskets offered for a specific car so you can pick the right one.

the "exhaust manifold gaskets" are where the manifolds connect to the cylinder heads... so you wont be needing them unless you're installing headers... and i honestly cannot remember in this hungover haze if there are any gaskets used on that era mustang's H.... pretty sure they're just metal-metal flare at the manifolds... might have a flange at the other end...

Red RTV will only stand up to between 600 and 700 degrees Fahrenheit. At the collector, or at the cats, the temp definitely passes that by a decent margin. Shit will burn out pretty quickly. Been there, done that, with some pretty shitty results. Maybe it's worked for you, though.
