Midnight Madness was announced on the Inside Wolfpack Sports show this morning, I thought they replayed it on WRAL at 11:30 on Sunday's but I guess they don't anymore, at least during the offseason.

It'll be on Saturday, October 13th-- In Reynolds. (Football does not play a game that weekend)

Red & White game back to a weekend, homecoming weekend, the weekend football will play Virginia. (October 27th)

^ Alot of schools do it just like they do their media practices during NCAA tournament. There's alot more fan interaction stuff leading up to it, but then at midnight it's a short practice for show kind of thing.

Midnight Madness was started by Lefty Driesell in 1971 as a way to excite the school and fans for the upcoming season. The players were introduced to the crowd, and began their first practice at midnight of the first day the team is allowed to begin practice during the school year. Lefty said at the beginning of his tenure that he wanted to make Maryland the "UCLA of the East." We saw how that turned out. He didn't win his first ACC Championship until 1984, 15 years after he was hired. But the point of "if this were a concern wouldn't it be maryland saying that we copied them?" was b/c Maryland invented it and now a ton of coaches do some form of Midnight Madness. We used to do it in Valvano's days. If a UNC fan says to you that we are copying them, then give them a history lesson, and let them know that they are copying Maryland. Of course State was the first to have pregame music and spotlight introductions for the starting lineup, so I guess the Chicago Bulls and a ton of other basketball teams, collegiate, professional, etc. are copying State.
