Did you mean to say 230 5th Ave? B/c there is a pretty swanky rooftop bar there that I never went to. I tried to go the last time I was in town but I wasn't wearing proper attire

^ha I remember going there. They had Snuggie type robes you could put on if it was too cold.

Is new york city unbearably hot to be walking around the streets in mid august? Does it cool off at night moreso than nc?

LOL, hell no man. It stays much hotter at night in NYC than it would in NC. All that metal and concrete holds the heat in. Given a really hot day it'll stay in the 80s all night long.

As far as it being hot in mid-august, it most likely will be though it could be 80s/70s. Ya never know for sure.

Thinking about going to the US Open men's final next Sunday. Anybody been to Flushing Meadows? Does the metro connect JFK to the tennis grounds?

QFT

Take the Airtran to Jamaica train station and hop in a black cab to the US Open. Will be around 25 bucks. They will try and rip you off so if a dude says 60 bucks, laugh in his face and walk down to the next black cab.

The only easy public transportation to the US Open is the 7 Train, which doesn't run anywhere near JFK.

And you'd probably be better off taking a cab even if you were close to the 7.

As opposed to being wedged between some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids.

Me and TheBullDoza spent a few days there in August (we missed the heat wave by like 2 days ... sweet!)

the Metropolitan Museum of Art was AMAZING!!! I was all, mehhh art museum, whatever. But I loved everything about it. I thought 2 hours would be enough time - no way. I only got to see the 1st floor, and only about 2/3 of it! One of my favorites was this painting of a woman that was made in Roman times. I just couldn't get over that I was looking at the face of someone who lived 2,000 years ago

^I stayed at this place back in June called the Eastgate Tower. It was an old apartment complex they had turned into a hotel. I won't say it was the nicest place but it was livable and cheap.

This may have been posted already, but did you guys know that the Met is free? There is just a "recommended donation" to enter?

Also, the Met takes at least 2 full days to look at all of the stuff. I love the Greek/Roman stuff.

^^77th is where the alumni group meets. Depending on the slate of games it can get crazy.

but you should be fine at 12. they have 24 oz PBRs and Natty Lights for 3 bucks so yea drink up..

if you like belgian beers there is a really sick place called Voldenoit on west 4th and 6th ave

Brooklyn bowl is a sweet green energy bowling alley that has live bands. Its huuuuuuuuge and its right around the corner from brooklyn brewery.

Go to McSorleys on 3rd ave and 7th street.

There is a hamburger place on Ave B between 2nd and 3rd street called zaitzeff. They have kobe beef burgers that are fucking amazing for 10 dollar bucks. sooooooooooooooooo good

Vhahah yup ive done it too

If you go to McSorley's you better go early. I've seen lines out the door at 4pm on a Saturday.

I definitely recommend Brother Jimmy's on 77th for the game. The game's not till 12 and then don't actually open till 12 but there's always a few people waiting outside for them to open (been there myself, haha)

^^ Yeah, Wolfpack Club on Facebook. Usually meets at the various Bro Jimmys for football and bball games. We usually go to the BJs on the UES, but lately have been going to Murray Hill and Union Sq versions (newer and a weaker crowd)....also active in charity events around town...

Let me know if you need a link...called the Tri-State Wolfpack Club

^^^ She still runs it, but has been less active this season. Odd she doesn't like you, she's usually very friendly...

^yeah I don't know why. I rode down with her once from NYC to NC and it was a nightmare.

Does Mikyle still work at the UES location? If I recall she usually works (or worked) Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I could ask her on FB but she never goes on...

also, i'm a little nervous to be traveling around by myself for a little bit thursday and part of friday, any advice?

^^^there are always tons of people walking around, so if you're nervous about crime I wouldn't be. If you're worried about getting lost, just buy a small map. The majority of Manhattan (and to some degree other boroughs) is a numbers grid so it's easy to find addresses. If you go to Brother Jimmy's the best (and original) location is 77th street and 2nd Ave (upper east side). It's 2 avenues east of the 6 train 77th street station.

Vinny's pizza? I haven't a clue. Look it up on Zagat perhaps?

If you have an iPod touch or iPhone, there are a ton of great NYC apps with maps, Subway lines, landmarks, etc.

I've been in New Brunswick for over 2 months now and still haven't been into the city. Kind of ashamed. I'm finally going in tomorrow for the Canes game at MSG. Gonna have to hit the Brother Jimmy's near the arena beforehand I think.

^4 go to a museum or something!

use HopStop to get around by train

as far as Brooklyn pizza goes I recommend:

Grimaldi's (classic - long line)
DiFara (much touted - a bit of a trip though)
Basil in Crown Heights for an interesting mix of cultures (Hasidic jews, Caribbean folks, and hipsters)

OH and go for a drink at Duff's Alcohol Abuse Center in southern Williamsburg - its easy to get to off the J train - FANTASTIC metal juke box, good atmosphere and reasonably cheap drinks
