I have to go in for a dental check-up before I get braces. Haven't been in for a check-up or cleaning in a long time. Any suggestions on the best dentists or orthodontists with the fairest prices? Right now, I'm going for Dr. Kent on Six Forks. They told me that I needed braces for 12-14 months - which would cost about $4700.

The braces sound like a fair price, I think the coast guard paid about 3000 for my braces and this was almost 10 years ago.

Cleaning and a check up isn't that pricey (100 or so). The key is have you had your wisdom teeth checked and/or removed because they can fuck up all your brace work (and to have them removed is another small fortune).

Be ready for them to find cavities or weak spots or the like.

Invisalign can be just as expensive, or more so, than braces because of the equipment the dentist needs to buy and use to take pictures of your teeth and make the trays.

I got invisalign off Blue Ridge from Dr. Moray and associates. Dr. Dickens was my favorite.

Invisalign was cheaper than regular braces in my case. I really liked invisalign, so I recommend it.

i have a friend who is an assistant at the Zaytoun office on Six Forks.
she just had her braces removed; looks like they did a fine job. now, her husband just got them. so, i'd recommend Zaytoun, seems like it's a good place.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

I was considering Invisalign, but since they are more expensive in most cases and only correct certain alignment problems, I'm going to go with traditional braces.

Moray and Lee in Cary was pretty cool but expensive. The price I got from them was about $5800. I guess I'll just go get my checkup/cleaning at some random place since they seem to all be about the same price range?

Good thread. I'll be getting braces (hopefully in the near future), so this was definitely helpful

Be sure to see Dr. Rebecca Schmorr on Glenwood Ave. She does 6-month braces and has a great staff. Her prices are fair and her work is excellent. http://glenwoodsmiles.com/drschmorr.asp

Does anyone know anything about Sunrise Dental? I believe that have a branch in Raleigh & Chapel Hill. I've seen a few commercials and am considering going there... wisdom teeth.

Moray is a little expensive - I have a simple overbite, and no spacing issues and they said it would take $6500 for 15 mths of braces to correct my overbite.

Infact my teeth aren't that bad, but don't laugh

Yeah, I saw that in the phonebook but the office was closed when I tried to call. What's up with those braces? Never heard of them.

i go to Dr. Brunk on Falls of the Neuse. He did my braces for around $2300, granted that was a couple a years ago. If you have to get any type of oral surgery check out Dr Mark Kozacko, he's also on Falls of the Neuse, he did my wisdom teeth extraction and it was pretty much painless in the recovery period, guess he has a good anesthesiologist or somethin.

I used to go to Sedation Dental Care (Sedation Dentistry?). They are very um, generous with the pain med prescriptions.

I'd personally recommend Dr. James Buckthal - he's got an office on Glenwood near Lake Boone Trail.

I had the 6-month braces from Dr. Schmorr and it was pretty easy overall. She uses clear brackets so they are not that noticeable. These braces are primarily for cosmetic problems (overlapping teeth, gaps, etc.) but will not correct major problems. Dr. Schmorr offers a free consultation, so there's nothing to lose by going in to see her.
