I've got a small form factor Dell 4600C, and need a low profile video card to hook up it to 55" Sony LCD Projection HDTV. Main purpose of the card will just be to display PC video output on the TV...i *might* play an older game or two at some point too. Can't put anything high powered in there tho, the PC comes with a weak power supply.

Requirements:
1) Low Profile
2) DVI Out
3) AGP
4) <=$50

TV only has 1 HDMI input so I'm getting a HDMI switch box, and want to plug a PC into that (via a DVI->HDMI cable).

Only problem is I'm having problems ensuring that whatever video card I pick will work with the DVI connector on whatever cable I pick out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI

I had this card all picked out:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121542

but then read this in the reviews:
Quote :
"Mine came with a DVI-D (digital only) port and VGA port"

And the cable I was looking at looked like it was for DVI-I, not DVI-D. Any guidance would be appreciated people, I don't know much about the AV stuff. I guess I need a video card and a DVI->HDMI cable that will work with that video card.

^ Not low-profile.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken, you should be fine with DVI-D only, since that's what your TV is looking for: a digital signal.

I have the same card you where looking at connected to my 32" dell LCD via a DVI>HDMI adapter. It works fine for me, but it's not the strongest card out there. Mine also didn't come with a half-height bracket.

well i meant either get a dvi-d cable for the one you were looking at, or get a different card and use the dvi-i cable you were looking at

^^ Yes
Quote :
"Determining which type of DVI cable to use for your products is critical in getting the right cable the first time. Check both of the female DVI plugs to determine what signals they are compatible with.

If one or both connections are DVI-D, you need a DVI-D cable.
If one or both connections are DVI-A, you need a DVI-A cable.
If one connection is DVI and the other is VGA, and the DVI is analog-compatible, you need a DVI to VGA cable or a DVI/VGA adaptor.
If both connections are DVI-I, you may use any DVI cable, but a DVI-I cable is recommended."
