Quote : | " Update: UNC might enclose football stadium By Rob Daniels Staff Writer
Less than a decade after a trend-setting, $51 million renovation of Kenan Stadium, the University of North Carolina is seriously considering another expansion plan that might enclose the facility entirely.
Steve Kirschner, a North Carolina athletics deparment spokesman, said university officials have not decided on particulars.
"There's no timetable and no cost yet," he said. "Yes, they would like to fast-track this so we can get moving on it as soon as possible."
Butch Davis, who became Carolina's coach in December, expressed excitement over the possibilities that the project would cost $100 million and would start within 18 months.
"We would like to get it going as soon as we can," Kirschner said. "But the details? We're not there yet. (Davis) threw out numbers and a time frame, and they may end up being what it is, but now it's in the early stages of the process. But this is clearly a process we would like to get done."
The stadium holds 60,000. University officials are talking about adding seats but haven't decided how many or even if they will expand seating capacity." |

Uh, dome? It doesn't say anything about that. They are talking about enclosing the stadium as in making it seats all the way around a la Carter-Finley. 8/9/2007 2:58:35 PM |

perhaps...
Quote : | "North Carolina's Kenan Memorial Stadium is one of the most picturesque settings in college football. Set amidst a series tall pines and usually filled with Carolina Blue patrons, the stadium doesn't intimidate but does give off a certain unique vibe. So what do you do when you have one of the coolest and prettiest stadiums in the sport? Why not muck it all up and nonsensically enclose it with a potential dome!
I understand Carolina is going big time with Butch Davis, but turn the dome funds into a charter jet for recruiting or pay for some high profile assistants. This is all at the spitballing stage and most likely will just mean enclosing only the endzone with seating. Whatever they do, hopefully they'll keep the esthetic that makes North Carolina football unique." |

He just wants to say he got UNC to spend more $$ on it's football program than Chuck did for us. I wonder how much of that is proposed taxpayer money?8/9/2007 3:07:20 PM |

The dome would really cut back on vision problems in the stadium... all that aluminum makes for some seriously dangerous glare! 8/9/2007 3:30:56 PM |

That sounds like something Chapel Hill would do. A dome would look terrible there.8/9/2007 3:44:54 PM |

I think they are that ignorant about football that when someone said bowl in the stadium someone ran with it and thought they were trying to dome it in. Not gonna happen 8/9/2007 3:57:59 PM |

Well, if they are "enclosing" the stadium but not sure if they are even gong to expand seating capacity it seem a dome is more plausible... i mean what is the point of "bowling" the stadium if you aren't adding seats in the new portions? 8/9/2007 4:02:58 PM |

...hmm they can barely sell out their 60,000 seat stadium on a sunny day in Chapel Hill.....now it'll still be half empty and fans still leaving at halftime to go munch on fish and chips on Franklin St. hehe. 8/9/2007 4:35:36 PM |

If i'm a high school recruit, I want to play/practice using the best facilities in the country. If UNC promises you that they will have those facilties by the time you graduate, it might make you commit. Even if they're just in development8/9/2007 4:55:34 PM |
