Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of all the movies in his friend's (Mos Def) store. In order to keep the store's one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Back to the Future, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop , putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.

Starring: Jack Black, Dante 'Mos Def' Smith, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow and Melonie Diaz.

looks like a movie that if gondry wasnt attactched, i'd wait til it hit the $1.50, but since its his, i'll probobly be there opening night

i mean, not only has michel directed this, but he wrote the screen play. i think this is a first for him, unless he wrote science of sleep, and i doubt he did.

i dont think he'll be as good of a writer as charlie kaufman, but it should be interesting to see how he goes.

i'll see this at least once in theaters.

Gondry also wrote Science of Sleep by himself, and was a co-writer with Kaufman on Eternal Sunshine.

From what I hear, to my great disappointment, Back to the Future is not in the film as they couldn't get permission to use it.

Uh, no, he did write Science of Sleep. So you have a good idea about his writing ability, which, honestly, is quite good. Even if that weren't the case, everything Kaufman does with him is not pure gold: Human Nature, despite being another Gondry-Kaufman collaboration, sorta sucked.

omg yes he was. His voice and the way he spoke in that movie made me want to cut my ears off. He was great in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Italian Job though.

I thought the movie was visually stunning but the story just didn't flow well. I think the focus was so heavy on visuals and set design that the editing suffered a little bit. I think in the extras he talks about it being a collection of dreams and ideas he's kept track of for many years. It's a nifty idea but I think the movie would have been better as a collection of short stories and not all woven together.

I couldn't stand Gael Garcia Bernal's whiny bitch of a character in Science of Sleep. Thats why I don't like that movie.

But this looks promising.

Jack Black has ruined any movie he has been in since Orange County and there is even an argument that he did a shitty job in that.

The man just doesn't belong in movies.

School of Rock was well received by most people.

His tiny part was hilarious in Anchorman.

He obviously couldn't fuck up Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny.

And he wasn't the reason King Kong was meh (though his line at the end did suck).

School of Rock was great
Ditto on him being funny in Anchorman
And I'm one of the people who really enjoyed Nacho Libre, although I can see how people could think it sucked.
He was great in Orange County too.

I'm pretty sure sensi doesn't know what he's talking about.

Bad:
School of Rock -- wasn't good at all, some liked it and that's fine

The Holiday -- he absolutely ruined because he isn't a serious actor (yes i saw it)

King Kong -- was meh, but coupled with him made it awful.

Shallow Hal -- he tried to do too much and came off looking dumb

Nacho Libre -- stupid premise, previews ruined it, same jokes over again

Envy -- i hope no one liked this movie

Good:

Orange County -- didn't overact and the main kid did a great job being upset by him/the family that it made it a good movie

Saving Silverman -- how can you not like this movie?

Ice Age -- doesn't really count but I will leave it here anyway

Anchorman -- he was great in this but was such a bit part it hardly outweighs some of his other shit

Neutral/Didn't see:

Tenacious D -- not going to judge because I dont care for their music, so im not going to hate on the movie because of that

Shark Tale

Based on this, I think he isn't a good actor. His bad movies outweigh his good ones by so much. I understand you may have a different opinion on some of these movies but I think he sucks.

JB didn't ruin The Holiday. The Holiday ruined The Holiday. There's exactly one good thing in that movie, and it's Eli Wallach.

^^ I was going to say the same thing, but then I re-read...he said post-Orange County.

Still, I think it's worth saying that if you don't like the D, I don't know why you'd like JB's style of comic acting at all, and therefore I don't know why you'd like the comedic films that are centered on his admittedly small (but hilarious) range.

From now on, I'll refer to this phenomenon as "the sensi bias."

the bjork video? please don't tell me you're comparing a music video to a feature film, especially one so early in gondry's career.

i dont think you are though, and im going to bed now, or else i would look it up.

it's funny how all the indie fan boys are total gondry fan boys as well. it's almost too predictable

I loved eternal like everyone else, but I can't see how everyone can suck this guys dick after making one great movie and one fairly mediocre one. Science Of Sleep was enjoyable, but hardly a great movie
