Are there any software tools that would let me stream music from my Mac to my Xbox 360? I searched online, and found Connect360. Any personal reviews? Are there any free alternatives?

if you don't play on live, you could mod it and put xbmc on there

Yeah... http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/connect360 works very well... it uses your iTunes library as the organization.

connect360 works fine... i haven't seen any viable free alternatives, in a long time

WTF? Everything else works. I've emptied cache, deleted cookies, etc. Firefox won't work either.

Are you on RoadRunner?

It basically means that your computer is unable to get an IP address for versiontracker.

Can you ping http://www.versiontracker.com?

Try going to 66.179.48.100 on your browser. You should see an error page "The domain you reached us by is not one that we recognize. If you think this is an error on our part, feel free to contact us at siteadmin@versiontracker.com. Otherwise, please check the url and try again."

Open up terminal and enter "lookupd -flushcache" It should flush your DNS cache.

Let us know if this works. If not, you might need to call up your ISP.

Attempting to visit that IP timed out the same as the regular domain. Flushcache did not fix it. 100% packet loss on ping attempt. I am on the Charter Cable equivalent of Roadrunner. Do I need to call them and why does this happen?

IP address should work...try pinging the IP address I posted.

If not, the routing tables are messed up on their end. Call them.

Maybe also try releasing your router's DHCP from the modem and rebooting everything.

Pinging the IP produces the same result as the domain name. No packets are returned. I tried thewolfweb.com as a baseline. That worked fine.

Customer support calls are such a joy. If I get a woman, I might as well just hang up. Eventually, they'll discover that I have a Mac and then say that they don't know anything about them. Tech support people are supposed to know more than you do.

Not sure how to do this. What router? I have used a Linksys wireless router in the past, but now I just use a wired connection to the Motorola SURFboard SB5120.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but in fairness, I was going to go to VersionTracker in search of Connect360 alternatives.

I think

Look up "man ifconfig"

en1 is the ethernet, I think.

Then, turn off your modem. Wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Restart OSX, or just do "sudo ifconfig en1 up".

She would not give me her geographic location (not unexpected), but swore she was using Charter High Speed.

Here's what we did:

I repeated myself a lot. She had me turn off my Firewall. Big surprise, that did not fix it. Next, go under Tools, to Internet Options, and set security tab to Medium.

I told her I do not use Windows and it was all over. I tried to get her to PRETEND that I used Windows and tell me where she was going with that, and she told me again to go to Internet Options and set security to Medium. Basically, as soon as she found out I use "MAC", she said it was an operating system problem and they could not support it.

Normally, I would be pissed off, but I was pretty patient.

I don't have Parallels. I thought about getting it for the novelty factor, but I have access to Windows at work, and no compelling reason to use it at home, so I spared the extra expense.

I told her that I had been using Charter internet with exactly the same computer, operating system, browser, and modem for over a year, but that did not help.

Gah. This really is terrible. How do these people get these jobs?

Girl in India just told me that the site may be down, and that's why I can't access it. Look, I can read from a script too. Listening to the customer and using problem solving skills is what leads to a satisfactory resolution. Why are the ones with the access credentials to fix the problems the ones that seem to know the least about them?

^I think I'm getting bumped up the ladder as we speak. This is close to being on par with the time I called my company IT department about a problem with access rights, and they connected with Remote Administrator, saw a Yahoo icon (from Yahoo Toolbar) in Adobe Acrobat, didn't recognize it, and thought that was the problem. That was the WTF of the century to me.

Problem still not resolved, but I finally did talk to an American who knew what OS X was and was not afraid of the term. He's "looking into it" which probably means playing Minesweeper.

Also, a friend in the area who gets internet from Charter has the same problem when attempting to access the site on Windows with IE 7. Neither of us can successfully ping or telnet versiontracker.com. My sister with Time Warner has no problems. What does it take to convince them that the problem is on their end? Legal monopolies, FTL!

here's the VERY fast way to resolve this. google up an anonymous proxy. plop it in your firefox settings, try going to versiontracker.

that will tell you 100% if the problem is on charter's end or yours. Or ssh into a remote box somewhere and try doing a lynx connection to the site, run a tracert too to see where everything is going.

If you come at them with one of those two tidbits, you will usually get escalated quickly (at least its always worked with Time Warner, SBC/Yahoo and Comcast)
