I looked around threads for recommendations, but couldn't find a place that would just spray paint my hood.. I had replaced the hood because of a collision and now it's rusting! I don't want anything fancy.. just need to treat the rust and get a simple coat of paint on it so that it doesn't look as bad as it does. Anyone here willing to do it for $$? 8/19/2007 4:25:50 PM |

if all you're worried about is rust then sand existing rust and spray a coat of primer on it.. i'm sure you can find some kind of guide online that'll give you more details on what to do.. 8/19/2007 4:52:06 PM |

I will probably end up doing it myself, however, will the paint be consistent, i.e., will it not be layered? Should I just walk into Advanced auto parts and get the first spray that matches the color or is there a specific brand that I should look for? 8/19/2007 7:45:46 PM |

I was only reccomending you prime it yourself to stop rust. 8/19/2007 8:16:51 PM |

Not to steal your thread but where might one be able to purchase decent auto paint in Charlotte.
I would like to paint my 93 accord with the same color as it is now (Charcoal). The top apparently has clearcoat failure and the paint has faded down to the primer in spots. I don't really care if I mess it up a little bit because as it looks now it's ugly as shit. I'm puchasing a paint sprayer to go with my air compressor and am looking for a little practice. 8/19/2007 9:14:38 PM |

i would sand out the rust and spray it with primer
it will look like shit and wont color match but it will stop the cancer from spreading
if you think youre going to paint a car by yourself and have it look any better than what you got i think youre mistaken.
there is a distinct reason why good paintjobs cost 1,000's of dollars. 8/21/2007 8:27:34 AM |

its all personal preference. a lot of people use the gravity feed guns. some use the one you posted. of course the gravity feed guns are much more expensive, but they go on sale at harbor frieght from time to time.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FILTER TO SEPERATE THE AIR AND WATER BEFORE YOU SPRAY.8/21/2007 8:58:40 AM |
