i want to convert 320 kbps mp3s to 192kbps

any freeware that im not seeing through google that will allow me to do this one or two clicks for a whole folder?

cdex can do this last time i checked. I think it was pretty much select output format and location, drag in/select files, press convert.

If you have access to a linux box I can provide a script that will do it. and it will do all the mp3s in a directory..

was that program freeware that doesnt have any trial period? i got a program to do this but it was like a fucking 30 song trial...just used it on the 20 songs i wanted to and said fuck it

audacity lets you change bitrate as long as you have the LAME encoder installed and it's free.

cdex is open source and has been around pretty much since the dawn of the internet. Atleast as long as people have been ripping cds and converting files.

It also supports a couple different formats by default and you can add others.

Since they already have terminal access to the iphone, i'm guessing that someone has or will get vlc/mplayer/etc to work on the iphone.

^^ iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing

Choose your settings

Choose the files you want, go to "Advanced" (not preferences, just the menu) and choose "Convert selection to MP3" it will say AAC, AIFF, WAV, etc., depending on what encoder you have selected.

I'm not sure, but I think it'll also convert videos Quicktime can read to be iPod ready via the same menu.

Also, another thing...I like that iTunes imports music files to the library automatically, but there are times when I download something just to listen it then, and don't wanna save it permanently. Is there something to avoid iTunes to import that particular file?

As far as I know, no (and I don't see why there would be).

But Quicktime Player can play any file than iTunes can, so just play it in Quicktime Player.

Just make QT the default player for mp3s, and drag them to itunes if you want to import. Also, you can write an automator script that lets you import mp3s from selected finder items.

Thus, you can just right click and something to import it into itunes, while you can double click it to play it in quicktime.
