PSA: Brought to you by bethaleigh
I wasn't his biggest fan, but I have a huge respect for him and I will be watching the movie. '3' was pretty good, but I hear that this one will be even better. I wish I had won the tickets to watch it at Childress Vineyards last night. 8/25/2007 10:41:53 AM |

http://www.brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=491226 proves that most of us are not on a first name basis with "jr." 8/25/2007 12:23:02 PM |

DALE is the name of the movie, retard. I'm not going to call it "Dale Earnhardt Sr." if thats not the name of it.

saw this movie on premiere night when it followed the schedule and came to Concord during the 600 week.
It was incredible. Its nothing like 3, which i'm a huge Dale fan and considered garbage. Its completely autobiographical and uses only archived footage and interviews. Probably wouldn't recommend it to people who don't enjoy the sport but if you are a casual fan to a diehard you will get something from this movie.
Seeing it on the bigscreen ass to elbows with some of nascar's biggest fans was awesome. 8/27/2007 10:42:55 AM |

Unfortunately, this movie also emphasizes how boring and soulless NASCAR has become in the past twenty years. ] 9/4/2007 8:23:31 PM |

The past few years have lead me to respect Dale (and Jr.) a lot more. I'm enjoying the movie. 9/4/2007 8:38:37 PM |

I am thoroughly enjoying this movie. I can't stand the replay from inside the car at the 500.
^^ How so?

^^ There are no characters, and very few genuine emotional displays. 9/4/2007 10:21:43 PM |

Well, it is a bunch of men - they're nt going to be touchy-feely. And flipping the bird and cursing people now carries a nice fine. It's smarter for everyone to keep their hot tempers minimized. I agree about the characters thing though. There needs to be more hanging out with the drivers (tv interviews) in unprofessional situations before the races like there was then. 9/4/2007 10:38:30 PM |

You can say it's smarter to hold your temper all you want, but NASCAR at the Cup level has gone completely away from what NASCAR is at the local level, and it's starting to show in attendance and coverage. The novelty is gone for a lot of casual fans that have been picked up in the past decade, and the people who make up the real fanbase have moved back to the grassroots level because Cup has turned its back on them while chasing dollars. THERE IS NO MOTHERFUCKING SOUTHERN 500...THAT IS WRONG ON TOO MANY LEVELS TO LIST.
I understand that you have to sacrifice the Smokey Yunick approach to racing in order to achieve parity and maximum safety, but the fact that NASCAR has legislated all of the personality out of Cup is really going to bite them in the next few years. Dale Earnhardt was a villain in his day; I remember how mad I was when he planted Terry Labonte at Bristol and then had the balls to throw the "rattle his cage" line, but at the same time I always respected him. The closest you have now is Stewart and Busch. Busch is just sort of a bland, cheap sort, and Stewart's got the will to win that Earnhardt had and the balls to speak his mind, but that mind is very often focused more on less honorable complaints.
I know I'm just rambling, but as someone who grew up in a road racing family that still had respect for the competitors in NASCAR and their individual spirits, it makes be both sad and angry that most, if not all of that is gone now. 9/4/2007 11:21:22 PM |

Nice...and very topical. Also there being no race at the Rock is pretty ridiculous. And the fact that the points system now rewards winning more than consistency...but yeah the whole no Southern 500 is a good figurehead for all that's wrong with cup racing now.9/5/2007 11:48:41 AM |
