Was playing around with iMovie and iPhoto at the apple store and I was really impressed by iMovies changes. The fact that when you roll over a video clip's preview icon it actually cycles through the movie clip. For example when you roll over the left edge and move the cursor to the right edge it plays the clip frame by frame depending on how fast the cursor is moving. It did this flawlessly with no pause or delay on only 1gb of RAM. The whole interface has been redone and it looks great.

I bought the 5 computer license the day it was released. Haven't messed around with iDVD or iMovie a lot, yet, but I love iPhoto. Since I already have a .Mac subscription, it works seamlessly with web galleries. I also like the new iWeb.

http://www.cerebrawl.com is hosted on .Mac. I might actually do the entire site using iWeb.

Haven't found much use of Garageband. I guess it's a nifty tool if you're into podcasting and stuff.

i also got a 5-license pack for both iLife and iWork 08, and am happy with both.
I've been using iPhoto 05, i think, on my G4 Mac Mini. I was already jealous of my wife's Intel Macbook that had iPhoto 06 on it, so the iPhoto 08 was a big upgrade for me, and I really like it. Unfortunately, iMovie 08 won't run on my Mini, so I haven't used it yet.

iWork 08, now with Numbers, is a really good deal. You can get a 5-pack of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers for $99, which is really great for a productivity suite.
My wife has been using Numbers on her MacBook for over a week now and really loves it. She always struggled somewhat with Excel - she got the basics, but doing any advanced work or getting good formatting was always a problem. But since installing Numbers, she's been going crazy making spreadsheets and adding all sorts of information to them, creating templates, adding images, doing formatting, and adding functions.

Eh 5 packs are great, but I've got 1 mac so I just went for the 39.00 student priced copy. Really do like Numbers and Pages though.

How'd you get it for so cheap? I checked online and it was only $5 or less for the education discount version. Even the Apple store employee was amazed.

I'd love to get iWork for $40. It's a good thing to have until Office 2008 rolls around.

Oh, I assumed that was the normal education price. For some reason education resellers (universities and some online places) can get it for 39.

No but they're supposed to check the expiration date, so if yours is expired just make sure you get a new one first.

just got iLife 08 and i'm really loving iMovie. Been reediting a lot of my track videos to upload to youtube. Makes life so much easier when you are looking for certain clips and cutting clips etc.

I would assume so.. Get a student to buy it for you, obviously. Although I'm honestly not sure if they scan your ID or not or just look at it or how that works, so maybe you can pull it off.

If you want to buy it on the student discount, just buy directly from the apple store on http://www.apple.com... That's how I bought my computer and I never had to show any ID... :-)

^^The new student pricing on apple's website for iWork sucks though (71 bucks.) Same price for iLife. Bookstore pricing is 39 bucks. Just have to have a current (unexpired) university ID or show up in the directory or have a university pay stub or have a letter from the mckimmon center saying you're a continuing ed student.

ID's are only slid if you use All-Campus bucks to pay for something.
