so we ordered a bunch of laptops on 8/2. they immediately got a expected ship date of 8/17. no big deal, they usually put a ship date way out there so you're pleased when they ship in a week.

then is said 8/21. then, 8/24 and then 8/29. 27 days is way farther out than usual.

a few of them showed up a week ago, but the rest have had the ship date pushed back to 9/5.

that's insane. our business account rep says there's some production problem with high end lcd's and that's what the holdup is. supposedly "michael dell has gotten involved."

we're going to think twice about going with them in the future if they can't ship things in a reasonable amount of time.

Just caught that ... so uh, does that mean he's down on the production line slapping parts together, or uh ... yelling at or firing someone? Interesting comment for them to make.

Lenovo was out of T60p's awhile back. You should accept this sort of thing happens and next time make sure your batch orders don't go to only one vendor.

complete shock. It even had a warranty - we were just never billed for it.

The bulk of our orders from Dell are desktops, but we also buy all of our laptops, projectors, and printers from them. No complaints so far. Got a big shipment of desktops dropped in an hour today.

Enjoy supporting your mixed bag of machines there. When making big orders of machines that you have to do lifecycle support for, it's a LOT easier when they're all the same.

We have a shipment of Dell laptops and Gateway tablets that were both supposedly held up by the LCD issue. The Dells arrived late last week but we have not heard anything on the Gateways as of yet.

^^ Eh consumer reports' reliability numbers favored Lenovo laptops over Dell last I saw. Actually it was over all other main stream laptop manufacturers, but maybe they've slipped some since 2006.
