Yes about every year I start an R/C Thread, and it goes for a few months and dies. I am starting a new one. I know some people on here have planes, I do cars, etc.

Well let me start this thread by mentioning our racetrack in Durham, http://www.thercspeedway.net

We race onroad, and now everybody is running electric. Either 1/10 scale, mainly with brushless motors and lipo batteries, or the Tamiya Mini Cooper class, which is cheap, more fun, more cost controlled, and these cars take a beating and keep going! Nitro class is technically still there, but nobody has run it lately.

There are a few shops around. The 'biggest' would be HobbyMasters http://www.hobby-masters.com in Raleigh just about 2 miles north of Crabtree.

There is a shop in Fuquay, http://www.toytownhobbyshop.com What is nice about this one, if you have cars or electric planes, I feel they have more stuff in a smaller space. They also run parking lot informal races/get-to-gethers in Fuquay on Friday nights.

Hungate's exists at a couple of malls, including Cary Town Center, but for parts they don't have much. Looking for a ready to run car or truck, they will have it, but parts forget it. Prices will be more than other places. Plastic models on the other hand they have the most. I can say whatever I want I worked there for a few years during school.

There is one more shop south of Fuquay, only open a couple of days a week, and is strictly flying I believe.

I will post some more stuff later on, but my intention is to get new T-Dub users knowledgeable about R/C and maybe get people to start this hobby.

I would normally badmouth the hell out of Hobby Masters and Larry Pischke...but he was really nice the last time I dropped in.

Their prices are a bit on the high side, but then they do have to make a living.

Yeah I enjoy tamiya stuff, great starter car there too. A TT-01 Chassis can be hopped up, not really for racing, but you can get just about anything to fit in it and drive it hard and they don't break. I regret selling mine.

Can I run my traxxas nitro rustler with street tires on that track? I bought it not long ago thinking there might be an offroad track somewhere in the triangle but havent found anything.

no you cannot run it at Durham, it is strictly a sanctioned ROAR rules track

Now in Fuquay on Friday nights you can run anything= I just got back from there, ran my ntc3 and ta-04. People run nitro rustlers and other nitro stadium trucks.

Basically the Tractor Supply Company in Fuquay, right behind Taco Bell and next to Bojangles
Parking lot at Tractor Supply Company, Friday nights at 8pm, we actually set up a road course layout and it is completley cutoff from the rest of the parking lot. The guy who runs the Fuquay hobby store, Otto, actually brings a blower out and sweeps the area first. So its fairly nice to run.

And you can drive whatever you want- just check radio frequencies to make sure you don't screw somebody up thats all.

Its a lot of fun!

Fuck hobby masters. And Larry is ok, he is the only person in that building who knows what he is talking about. 'Ol junior is a genuine cock sucking freebaser..........and their dad is a gigantic starfish also. I hope they go out of business. Hell, we call that place "Dungeons and Airplanes".......because thats about all they care about. Those Dungeons and Dragons fags weird everyone out that go in that store too....

And for the record, ASSphalt racing is ghey. Dirt is where its at, and nitro is top dog in the dirt. Here is a pic I took of a buddies Losi Eight T........ready for us to finish our track rebuild......

BTW, a friends dad goes out to Wheels to race........dunno if you know him or not. His name is Jeff, mid 40's with glasses........I believe he has a Scalpel but I can't recall. Tell him Darren said hello. He runs in the dirt with us.

holy crap a mini cooper class!?

I got one a few years ago to mess around with and brought it out there. It actually did pretty well with the stock tourers but was a bit frustrating at times so mostly I ran my brushless RS4.

I had been considering racing again for the hell of it but didnt want to buy new gear... Maybe I could run in the mini class. It was a pretty damn fun car considering fwd... It really hooked up with HPI mini x-patterns... Too well seemingly because I could not get the damn things to stay stuck to the wheels. If they would hold on that thing would really carve I think.

I played with it a little with the brushless motor and it was pretty ridiculous to drive. Full throttle understeer at any speed.

Not sure when I'd be able to make it out though... This next couple weekends will be busy. Are there practice sessions ever?

you can practice whenever you want because the track is free and no gates or anything, just don't modify the layout

xpattern hpi tires for the mini were discontinued, there are other options i don't know which is best, check out the forum site at http://www.thercspeedway.net its the track's actual website

man i am retarded, i mean fucktard stupid, i had no power on my nitro tc3 and it turns out the zip tie holding the air cleaner to the air intake was actually restricting the motion of the rotary carb connector that goes to the servo

basically small plastic piece held my power to 50-60%

I just sold my savage for $40 because UPS done fucked it up in shipping it to California, I didn't get insurance, it sold for $220 but he got a box with busted up stuff. Lesson learned. At least I don't NEED the money. Oh well live and let learn, but this DOES mean my funding for getting a Mini Cooper has vanished, I have a limit as to the number of cars I can have at once, I had to sell one to get another. At least I got a raise at work, but

I built this yesterday http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMFV9&P=K

Friend's first RC car, hobby grade at least. Man I want one. Cheap as hell, durable as can be, and with the silvercan motor it runs for like 25minutes on 3300mah batteries too. Turns on a dime, and is quick enough too. We race the M03 chassis at Durham too

I'm into boats myself
my favorite is probably a Nikko/Tronico model from Germany made in the late 1980's (I think, the manual is in German and they sure dont make them anymore) I found it on ebay a long while ago, paid 45 bucks + 10 odd shipping

so as to not clutter with images, the foils can be seen- http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/windhound/hydro-c.jpg
and the inside- http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/windhound/hydro-b.jpg
About 4 years ago I decided to gut it an put in new electronics, mostly from TowerHobbies (the original motor had surface rust, but still ran.. albet slowly). Now I'm redoing the engine mount, thus why the engine is loose. The boat isnt quite watertight either, thus why everything is wrapped in plastic; the esc is wrapped in an ironingboard cloth to keep it from melting the plastic.
poor picture, but it does run decent- http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/windhound/boat1.jpg
...oh, and I modeled it in solidworks for my GC120 project- http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y150/windhound/sw_hydrofoil.jpg overkill for the project, but I like how it turned out

also have a Kyosho Seadolphin sailboat, Futaba Supercandy, and an old Traxxas Stampeed, the last needs repair before it can be run again

I saw a plane I wanted to buy, but I can't remember the name. It was a cheapy (~$70) ready to fly deal. All I can remember was that it was something like the "XRP" plane, but XRP is the name of my dewault batteries so I got it mixed up. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

damn I just got a massive like 75% comission raise at work Soooooo I might be getting back into racing

BUT next year, as there are only maybe 3 more races left out at the track at Durham where I would go

NEED to get lipo, and brushless too, I might build a new TC5 as well

Reminder tonight assuming the weather is OK there will be cars at the Tractor Supply Co. Parking lot in Fuquay starting around 8pm!!

well no Fuquay racing tonight

There will be action at http://www.TheRCSpeedway.net in Durham on Sunday

Hope to run a newly built Tamiya Swift- I should get beaten badly but hey its a new car with NO hopups either

I haven't raced all year either

Here is my NTC3 set up with a single speed transmission for the Fuquay Layout, its small so I figure torque would be better. Its the original RTR with version 2 rear end and threaded shocks added (and the 2 speed kit which I would use at bigger tracks) and of course better radio stuff

I'll have to go get it from storage and look at all the specs.. the fucking thing is huge tho, I never had much luck getting the gyro setup right. It's going to need new blades on the rear and somebody that knows what they're doing to set it up right before you could fly it but hell you like working on shit so maybe it's right for you.

Anyways, I'll get the info for you in a few hours

seen that vid

not a nitro 3 evo for sure its electric, an HPI Pro4 - she says the wrong car

1/8 buggy- I would say Losi 8ight buggy or perhaps the Duratrax Raze 'cause its cheaper and parts are always going to be on http://www.towerhobbies.com Duratrax is a company owned by the same company that owns towerhobbies and Duratrax lately has been making decent stuff. OLD Duratrax stuff sucked ass

I'd go with the Losi. You dont want to have to order your parts online all the time. You WILL break parts often. Trust me.

I have some stuff i bought as part of a (large) package deal off of classifieds a year or two back, if anybody wants a few NIB servos, or an old beater electric car, which needs battery's and the antenna whip soldered back onto the receiver, let me know. I just want it out of my living room floor.

Anyone want a little 1/18th scale Duratrax Vendetta? Its pretty badass. AWD, has ball diffs front and rear, steel rear axles, good ESC, two batteries.

Its fun, but i'm about to move and trying to get rid of anything i don't use real often.

I would like to have one, but i have too many cars again now; I mean I literally just got my F1 car like 5 hours ago

and already fucked it up; I used a standard pinion gear, read below:

Quote :
"This is a Tamiya TAM53101 0.4 Metric Pinion Gear Set. It includes one 20 tooth and one 21 tooth 0.4 module (pitch) pinions. Tamiya cars use metric instead of standard gears. If you try to use a standard pinion it will chew up your gears."

So I need to get some gears for the F1 car, my TC4 needs CVD parts, my TA-04 needs front upright and a turn screw, my B3 needs rear wheels and ONE bearing, my NTC3 needs the carb fixed or replaced, or a new motor;

THUS right now NONE of my cars work!! Shiieeet. I could take parts of some to fit in others to get ONE to work. I need like $40 worth of stuff total! Going to order it tomorrow. Team Cheerwhiner back in business in a few days. I'm not bummed; got AutoX this weekend anyway.
